I have a Raptor 660 and added a LSR +2 swingarm. For the chain slider I am using the single roller TM Designworks setup. I ended up having to shim my skid plate down about an inch. It's mostly because of the slider at this point.

Last time I went riding my skidplate was hitting everything. I am going to try 23" / 22" tire setup. I was thinking about Razr2 fronts and Razr rears. If I go with that should I just get the 4 ply rears to help with the weight? Or does the puncture resistance of a 6-ply worth the extra weight?

Which do you think is the best setup for North East riding? Basically I need a good all around GNCC type tire but also need it to handle Sand and Mud.

23" Razr 2 / 22" Razr
23" HD / 22" XCT
23" / 22" Kenda Klaws or mabye Knarly rear

I would choose the 23 HD's with 22 XCT's, but that is my opinion. I think you would be ok with either the ITP's or Maxxis combo. Also, an inch seems a lot for you to lower you skid plate. I would try to figure out something else, or maybe just take the whole roller out.

i love my razr 2's. no problems at all with the 6ply. i havent noticed any power loss with the added weight either. but it seems like alot to change your tire setup just to keep that slider. maybe try takin it out and usin somethin else like stated above?

Sorry I should have mentioned that I need new tires regardless of size change. By switching to the LSR arm I need to shim about 1/2" for the skidplate to clear the rear sprocket.

I noticed that TM Designworks now has a rear chain guide that can bolt right onto the skid plate. I am just sick of messing w. the skid plate so figured going up to 22" would fix the problem.

I was asking about the 4ply vs. 6ply since I am going up to a 22" tire. I was curious if going with a 4ply 22" would keep the weight of the tires closer to a 6ply 20". From what I understand the less rotating mass, the less power you lose.

go 26" front and rear. lol I have read that the Baja guys love em. Plenty of ground clearance.

Actually their is only 1 team on a DS 650 using that set up in baja. I think that is taking it a little too far. And I dont think the bike will handle very well with such big tires.

I assume the 26" tire comment was an attempt at scarcasm.

On our desert quad I'm running 23" Klaws on the front and 22" Knarly's on the rear. They are working awesome!

not entirely. I read in one of my ATV mags about the DS650 w/ the 26" tires and the team said the quad handled well and soaked up everything that came at it. Not to mention the ground clearance.

Yeah I think it was the new atv action mag. They tested the DS and they did some 25" tires on different quads. It was pretty neat. The DS looked like it should have those tires on from the factory.

ITP HD's 23 with XCT's 22. this is what i run and i love them front tires are sweet they handle real good they dount push are nuthin. the rears are realy sweet at first i did not like them but when i got the edges worn off on them they realy started to work good. the more ride time you get on them the more you will like them.

What gearing are you running? If your still running stock gearing drop the rear sprocket size 2-3 teeth. You can then offset the gearing change to the rear by dropping to a 12t front sprocket. That way you can run the skidplate closer to where its supposed to be.

If you still want to run the 23/22 setup it'd be fine, but as you said......the more ground clearance the better. You may find if you change the gearing and readjust the skid you may not need the larger tires. ;)

I did drop the front sprocket down to 12 and was actually thinking about INCREASING the rear to 42. (stock is 13/40) The drop in the front sprocket made a night and day difference. The stock gearing was way too tall for most tight trails.

I am thinking about taking off the rear slider and just going with this setup:

With the +2 swingarm I just worry about the chain being too sloppy. Think it's cool to run this chain guide instead of my current rear slider which is causing me all my clearance headaches:

I just put 23"front 22"rear Bear Claws on my 400ex. I tryed to get it stuck but even when I stoped in a deep wet mud hole the Bear Claws had NO TROUBLE geting me out. They slide on hard pack very well. My skid plate is not draging on everything any more. There is a handaling diffrence with taller tires, and it will probably be more evident on the tall Raptor.
