Me and my friend took out his 400ex today just for some trail riding and what not. We came home and just rode around the yard for a bit. After doin some little wheelies and holeshots this had occured. No jumping at all was involved.

Part Number 51365-HN1-003 The whole a-arm, bearings, ball joint and all for $39.67. How much is a z400 frame?:p

We Mig welded it and looks stronger than ever. The other side looks fine. Just all the sudden heard some kind of cracking and bam there it goes. It's not my quad its my friends. I tried to talk him into some aftermarkets but he didn't want to.

How much does a z400 frame cost? Hmm... couldn't tell ya. Haven't had a problem yet but did the front shock gussets just incase:D

Well it was the first 400ex i've ever ridden. Didn't turn out to well. The welds wern't very good and didn't go all the way around the shock mount.; You think they would just put the little extra welds in the for added strength. Guess not..

i am a welder and more weld does not always mean stronger. some thing should not be welded all the way around. it will cause more stress and will brake faster. engineers calculate stress load to determine where and how much weld should be on the joint.

reliable yes...but things happen...maybe you let someone borrow it, they broke it part way and didn't tell you...OR you bought it like that? think of that buddy? ;) ;)

My neighbor had a 400EX that did the same thing. Turned out the arm had rust damage...when it pulled apart you could see inside...looked nasty...was rusted almost all the way through.

Could this have happened to you?

Looks like in one picture there is a lot of rust...but I can't tell if it is really bad or not.

It is common, I have seen it on all the 400ex's we ride, water gets in there and it rusts from the inside out and eventually allows the metal to rip. Not a big deal.

I would also say it was like that before, Probley from bottoming out the shocks, But i have sceen it on about 3 400ex, thank god u where not jumping anything big.

It does help to check everything over after u ride, while your cleaning everything up.

is there anything you can spray to stop the rusting from the inside out. i have a old kx80 that may be rusting on the inside of the metal tubbing.
