How much should I expect to have to spend on either a 416 or 426 rebuild?...I plan on getting a stage 1 hotcam, either a wiseco or a je 11:1 piston, bore it and sleeve it. Is there anything else that I'll need?

for a 416 it will be about
$120 for the piston kit from c&d
$40 for the gaskets from c&d
$60 for the bore from c&d
$100 for the cam on ebay
youll probably want different jets air filter and full exhaust system
and what ever else you want to put on it.
i would stay with the 416 that way you dont have to resleeve it.
i just got done with mine from a stock quad and spent probably close to $1500 bucks if not more.its up to you

Well I know my JE 416 Piston from C&D was $120. If you go with a 416 or 426 you won't need to re-sleeve, just have the stock sleeve bored, which at most is $50 from most places. For the Cam I think you would be better off with the Stage 2, or a more all around Cam. You will also need to get some Gaskets, I got the Cometic Flexsteel for $40, and I would also get some new Valve Seals, which are like $5 for all of them. C&D should be able to get you all of that!

Also depending on the year, you might want to update the clutch to a Sparks 8 plate, which was around $130 from C&D.

I think I'm definetly going to have to resleeve it. Both my piston and sleeve are scored really bad. Check out the pics and let me know.

i bet a 416 overbore would clean that up.

I would try the 416 bore, but even if you have to get a new sleeve that shouldn't be a whole lot more.

I finally decided what I'm gonna do. I'm getting the JE 87mm 13:1 piston. Theres a machine shop in town that does really good machine work for my local atv shop. Hopefully I can get a good price on a bore. I have to buy the piston first though. wish me luck guys. thanks for all the help. I'll keep you posted.

I hope your planning on updating the whole motor with that kind of compression. That is high. You will need a heavy duty crank and all kinds of stuff. If you want to keep her reliable for a long time just get an 11:1 piston.

id go with the JE 10.8:1 because as stated before 13:1 is gonna require a better rod and race fuel not to mention it wont make much of a difference..:D

it will make quite a difference compared to a 10.8 or 11.5 piston. the more compression the more power but yet you also have to keep it up in tip top shape. HD timing chain, rod, crank, 8mm studs, and quite a few things else I would reccomend w/ that kind of compression. In my 426 i will be running 11:1 because I don't want to run race fuel. 93 works for me
