My gf rides a Blaster but is tired of the kick start and clutch.

If you had the choice between a 2001 Honda 250EX in decent shape and a 2002 Suzuki Ozark 250 that is in good shape, with skidplates and has a year left on the extended warranty which would you take if the prices are close.

I know the Honda is good but someone put the bug in my ear about the Ozark having tranny problems.

Anyone have any input? Thanks.

The 250ex is a lot sportier, so I would get that.

first ? can your gf handle the blaster by that i mean why not get her into a full size quad you are gonna have more room to grow on a 400cc quad than you are on a blaster or 250 ex plus it makes a nice back up quad for yourself how long has she been riding and how much does she like to ride would be the next question plus a 400cc quad would probably be easier to re-sell if she doesnt like it

just food for thought here but.. can NONE of you read? do you just click into the thread and then immediatly hit reply?

This is RIGHT at the top of the first post

That means she is TIRED OF THE KICKSTART AND THE CLUTCH.. meaning a 400ex is out of the question.. so is any other bike with a manual clutch..

250ex would be a nice thing to put her on..

Ok maybe I forgot to mention that she is 5'0 tall and weighs 100lbs wet. She rides my KFX400 here and there and it is just way too big for her. She can handle the blaster but she is still learning to ride. Keep in mind the Blaster is perfect in size for her but she just wants the auto-clutch and electric start.

I was thinking the Ozark because it will keep her from getting as dirty, she can carry all of my stuff on the racks LOL and for a utility type quad it has pretty good suspension travel and skidplates. But I wanted to hear what others thought. I understand what everyone says about the 400s but they are just way too big for her.

Does anyone have anything bad to say about the Ozark or 250EX with those factors in mind? Both are local, both seem to be in nice shape and both are within $300 of each other. Should the year left on the warranty be a big deciding factor? The skid plates? How reliable is the Ozark? I know the Honda would be good but she isn't a hardcore rider and won't be doing jumps or anything crazy. Thanks for all your help so far.

Go with the 250ex foresure. Sounds perfect for what shes looking for. I had a 250ex, and they are amazing lil bikes, pretty quick for a lil 4 stroke 250, and they are bulletproof. I beat the piss outa mine, and never had 1 issue. Tranny is rock hard, i dump the auto clutch into gear all the time for wheelies, and never hurt a thing on that bike. For trails, you cant find a better bike that would suit your gf.

If you dont go with the 250, ill sugest a 300ex, just because its a step up and about the same as a blaster that she moving on from. Its got electric start, but still has the clutch. I think she will get used to the clutch over time. The big thing is kicking it over all the time, and you dont need to with the 300ex or the 250ex.. good luck deciding !

my gf has an ozark. she finds it hard to shift alot especially goin from 2nd-3rd gear. i think alot of that has to do with it having linkage for the shifter though. uif you ride in muddy and rutted areas, the ozark does have more ground clearance and does better in the mud, but its also pretty tippy. the ozark will have a softer ride, since the rear shock is more plush. brakes on both quads are about even. id go with the 250ex because of the fact that the tranny is alot smoother, its lower to the ground, and its a honda.:D

250ex is excelent first quad for her size. Don't know much about the Suzuki, but did a quick check. Honda weighs about 50 pounds less. That was one consideration when we bought for our daughters. Lighter to muscle around when they get stuck! (or roll it into the creek on top of them:o
Skidplates are a must have if you'll be doing any woods riding.

It comes down to either would be fine. Get her out on each of them and see which feels better to her.

I am looking at the TrailBlazers but worried she would get bored without having to shift.... I will mention it to her.

The 300EX would be a good bike BUT I think she is trying to stay around $2k.... :ermm:

You can get a decent 300ex for a little more than 2 grand. I had a 300ex for about 3 years, they have great handling and are easy to maintain. I personaly just don't like the trailblazers, they are too heavy for the type of motor and transmission it has.

If she still is adament about not wanting a clutch, the 250ex's you can't go wrong with. I think that if you go with an ozark, or a trailblazer, or hell mabey even the 250ex that she might get bored with the power coming from a blaster.

I'd say go with the 250ex. I have a 250ex and a trailblazer and the 250ex is smaller, lighter and much more manageable on the trails. Our trailbl;azer just feels clumsy and big and it is a pain in the *** to work on compared to my hondas. Also you can't beat the reliability of the 250ex. The ozarks are a nice quad but they are a little heavier than the 250ex. My 10 year old rides the 250ex and he weighs about 100 lbs. and he handles the quad great. Either the ozark or the 250ex would be a great choice but I'd pick the 250 just because it's more fun.

trailblazer is the way to go. She will love it. It's a full size quad also. The 250ex is kinda small. The Trailblazer is sturdy, stable and cheap.

My ex loved hers!

For somebody that little, get her the smallest quad possible especially if she's just beggining. Has the had to bail yet?

My girlfriend rides my old 250ex most of the time, but after it got stolen I let her use my fathers KFX700 to go riding. Told her to go easy, just putt. It's a full-auto, so it was no problem for her. Until we were climbing a small hill with some mud, I was behind, and she lost some traction the the quad angled out a bit. With the 250 she would've held the front brakes, and tried powersliding back straight, or letting it roll back with the bars cut. With the KFX, she got nervous, and jumped right off the side. It came about a foot from rolling right on top of her, and 6 inches from taking me and my bike right out.

Needles to say, get her something she can really manhandle, not some bulky machine. Don't even considder a trailblazer, IMO.

deffently a 250ex. it is the perfect quad to start riding, or if your still learning. i got it when i turned 12 and rode it for 3 years until i weighed 170 pounds and it still hauled me around. the thing never failed to start and is super easy to maintain.
