Tonight I installed my Sunline clutch perch with the factory lever. Changed the perch because I took the parking brake off. Anyway, when I put the cable and everything together, the adustment was off, so I had to adjust the lower adjuster on the motor. With the factor perch, the bottom adjuster was about 3/4 of the way out. Now it is pretty much all the way out. I have the proper free play now on the clutch lever, and the perch adjustment is about in the middle of its travel. Am I correct in assuming that the cable is stretched, and about at the end of its life? Thanks for any help.

it is possible but that is a lot of stretching. most racers replace them a couple times a year so they don't break. i wouldn't hesitate getting a new one.

Is it possible that something else is wrong?? The clutch does not slip or chatter or anything.

ive got a motionpro cable thats only like a few months old and the bottom adjuster has just enough room for the nut on the end.

Thats interesting. Is there anyway to shorten a cable by about 3/4 of an inch???

buy a new cable, they are like $15. It will probably pull easier too.

Is that how much they are at a Honda Dealer??

That's about what I paid. It wasn't too much, maybe $20 at the most.

Of course if you can wait, its cheaper to get it from an aftermarket place.

I'll call my local Honda dealer and see how much they want for one. RockyMountainATV has Motion Pro for 11.99. If the factory one is around 15.00, I'll just get one of those.

Dont shorten the cable buy new one and always keep a couple extra. My friend was on a Cr500 and the idiot before him shortend the cable by putting a ball of solder on the end. He was drag racing a mustang and had the throttle pinned on the gas tank and the ball of solder came loose and he did a complete backflip....he wasnt seriously hurt but still lol

Went to the Honda shop and bought a factory one for 13.50. We'll see what happens when I install it.

Well put the new clutch cable on, and it is in the exact same place as the old one. Guess I have a spare cable now.

Not exactly sure what your problem is here, but you can buy a longer adjusting bolt up at your lever if needed. I'm sure you know that the clutch lever should have a little free play in it also.

Do you have an aftermarket clutch lever and or perch? Why are you replacing it? Stretched or broken?
