5.0 is 302
5.3 is 327
5.7 is 350

thanks tommy

i'm selling my dakota, and i found a 95 yukon the the local classifieds. i'm going to go look at it (next week..mom took away the keys for a week because i got a speeding ticket with it). if i like it, i'm going to see if he will do an even trade.

i like my dakota, but the 3.9 in it gets about 13 mpg, which sucks for the size motor that it is.

here's a copy of the ad:

'95 GMC YUKON, 5.7L, PW/PDL, AC, cruise, P.seat, HD tow package, black, new inspection, 150K, Very Nice! or will trade for pickup, $5800.

good luck w/ mileage. don't expect any better. the 350 has always been and always will be a gas hog.

Thats not that bad as long as it injected. Try a the 454, that sucks. Small blocks arnt that bad. People always complain about gas with trucks. If it that bad buy a hybrid.

A friend of mine drives a truck with the 350 and he gets around 14mpg, but that is because he likes to floor it whenever he drives.

My dad has a custom transmission that he made, 4-spd overdrive tranny from a smaller Datsun truck that he used with 350's and 327's, he claims he got 25mpg with those engines.

Trans Ams were supposed to have a 303 Pontiac engine in '69, but reliability and the fact that it was a very high RPM motor killed this plan. All '69 Trans Ams ended up getting the 400, making it illegal to race in the series the car was named after, since there was a 305 cubic inch limit. The first Trans Am to get a 5.0 liter was the '82 model (first year for a chevy V8 in a Firebird).

the 302 and 305 cubic inch motors are not really 5.0's they are in a 5.0 class just like the yfz 450 is not a 450 its just in the class of 450's

the formula for getting the right liter number is pretty easy take the cubic inch of the motor "302, 305, 350 ext" and divide it by 61.02 and thats the exact number

lol honda civic. no don't think so. I have been working on engines(w/ my father) since I was 8. I rebuilt my first 350 chevy when I was 12.

I currently drive a 87 GMC Jimmy, w/ a '79 Camaro w/ a 355 Roller sittin in my garage, and I have a 76 GMC Jimmy w/ a Big Block in it. I don't own a honda except my quad.

The Regular 5.7 Liter 350 gets decent gas mileage. If I were you I would go with a 96-99 Tahoe/Yukon because they are the 5.7 Vortec and that helps out a lot with power and mileage. I have a 98 Silverado with 5.7 and average about 18 Highway, 16 City. The 350 is actually known for good gas mileage for a small block compared to a 351 or 302 Fords.

If I take it easy with my '04 Ram on the highway, 5300 lb truck, 4X4 quadcab, 3.55 gears, I can get 17-18 mpg calculated. For an engine with 345HP and 375 lb-ft torque, that isn't 1/2 bad. Problem with a smaller motor is that you're flooring it all the time to get going as good as a larger one, so you end up using just as much fuel. My Ram gets the same mileage as I did with my F-150 with the 4.6 and Toyota with the 2.4 4 cylinder just for that reason. The Ram 5.7 just cruises down the highway at 75 mph with hardly any throttle.

I have the F-150 with the triton v8 5.4 and its not really that bad if you aren't on the throttle too much. It usually gets 15 mpg on country roads and around 18mpg on highways

"he says one thing, you say another. who's to say who is right and who is wrong???" it is simple, i can post information of the gas mileage that many V8's get to prove they get good gas mileage. i didn't think i had to as i'm sure many of us know that there are plenty of V8's that get good gas mileage plain and simple.

my car in my sig gets 13-16, its supposed to get mid 20's on the highway and im sure it will, plus i like to get on it too so, ya know

heres an example for you whiners on here

our F-250 460=5-7mph

our 04 mach 1 281=over 20

there ya go, some get good some get bad, just stop complaining

Whos to say a gas hog is a gas hog. People will ALWAYS complain. If cars ran 20 miles to the ounce of gas would go to $30+ per gallon. I gave up on it all. Prices will never change, only for the worse. If you cant afford the amount of the fuel your vehicle consumes, SELL IT AND SHUT UP! BUY A HUFFY! If your budget is that greatly hurt by fuel to get to work and back sell your truck and get a hybrid. Its like people I know that go to the bar that complain about the cost of drinks and still want to go several times a week. DRINK AT HOME or dont drink at all. If you need to pinch pennys maybe you should drink water.

i guess it depends on what your definition of a gas hog is. his definition might be different than yours. a gas hog to his civic might be 20 mpg because he's used to getting 30 or 40 just m/o though.
