ok, long story short, my grips almost fell off while riding. is safty wire anything special, or just normal wire?

Safety wire is always good until it shreds your gloves. I've always found grip glue to be more than sufficient. It's probably a good idea to wire them though, I've seen some ugly things happen when a grip comes off say going warp speed through whoops or twisting through some trees. :p
