i just got my engine rebuilt..and its running great..except when i go to start it the starter makes a click click click crunch kind of sound..while its turning over.. it will however fire off..and after i run it for a while and go back to start it ..it will be fine.. but when i let it sit for a while and it cools down it will make the sounds again.. i have a race at southwick on the 3rd.. will it be fine for the race..or should i rush order one now..and could something be wrong besides the starter?

it could be your starter gears.how is the gear on the starter itself?if those are worn it will slip and grind until "good" teeth makes contact.check it out

ive checked the gears ..they are fine, i even put a new gear on to make sure, and it still does it. So, im pretty sure that its the starter..but ill check again

i have the same problem with my 01 300ex, but its not my starter. the screws on my batterie terminals keep loosening up and some wierd gunk forms between the wire and the terminal. i have t wiggle the wires a little to get it started. but once its warmed up it starts right up.

hey mix up some baking soda and water and pour it on the terminals it will take care of the acid corrosion around it.

its not my battery.. i made sure there was no crossion on the terminals.. im pretty sure its my starter now.. im goin to try and find another one.. since southwick is canceled due to the 18+ inches of mud.. and the dangerous conditions..:( .. hopefully that will be it

you can probly have the brushes and stuff changed out for cheap...or check ebay they usually have starters for cheap ..

Hey fastgirl, replace the one way bearing!! Mine idd the same thing & we replaced that & BAM she fired right up :) i'd do that before spending the big $$ on a starter!!! Good luck :D

Also check your cylinoid (sp?). Mine went bad right after I put in my 330 kit.

thanks.. dirtmomma.. where is the one-way bearing?? ..and we checked the solenoid and that was fine.. so its nothing wit the electrial

taek the flywheel cover off, it's in there!!
