I've got a Clarke 5.5 black plastic gas tank with a leak. It's leaking where one of the slots for the front fenders/nose piece tabs fit. Anyone know of a sealant, glue or whatever to stop the leak. Any ideas?

Yeah JB weld should work. one of my retarded friends put too long a bolt in his tranny case and somehow punched it through the other side so i JB welded it back on (cause it went throught the Magnesium) and it's held up great. (still waitin for him to hit a log just right cause it's the bottom front bolt on his blaster.. no skid plate naturally.) for a gas tank it ought to work fine. If not you could always get a heat torch and melt it just a little bit (thats a joke... im not that stupid.. wouldnt do that again. lol jk)

first of all, if u really wanna do it yourself, drain the tank and wash it out several times with water, the gas vapor is more explosive than having gas in the tank.

whatever you do be carefull, kid i know burn his whole house down trying to fix a tank.

Yes, I want to fix it but how? Does anyone make a tank sealant that will work on plastic? I might try a low watt soldering iron. I was looking for a good fix, I really don't know how to fix it. Does anyone know about plastic welding? Ijust hope I'm not SOL.

yeah i just remembered you can buy a plastic welder. heres the webby: www.rockymountainatv.com - you'll have to search for "PLASTIC WELDING KIT" btw it's $35 Description: EASILY FIXES AND REPAIRS ALL ATV AND MOTORCYCLE PARTS. *CLEAR WELDING ROD ACTUALLY TAKES ON THE COLOR OF THE ORIGINAL PLASTIC WITH NO WORRY OF TRYING TO MATCH EXISTING PARTS *WELDING KIT INCLUDES: 40 WATT WELDER, SPECIAL TIP THAT MAKES WELDING EASY, AND 15 FEET OF CLEAR POLYETHYLENE ROD ALONG WITH DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE.

That ought to fix it! i'm lookin at the rockymountain magazine cause i dont kno if the site has full description.

You could use a soldering iron and just melt it back together...thats how Ive fixed cracked plastic before.

try jb weld its pretty cheap so if it dont work u can try something else.. i used some kind of mixable steel thats better than jb weld but costs more. but thats on metal so i dont think the steel would work on plastic .. jb. all else falls see above posts on clearing tank and melting. remeber dont get excited.. take your time

A low watt soldering iron and use plastic Zip-ties as your rods.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm checking on "plastic welding" kits now. Got a guy at the parts house running one down now.
