What do you guys recommend as a good tire/rim combo for the dunes?

I want something that is reliable yet provides good overall traction.

everybody goes with the skat trak haulers. me personally i like the skate 2's. there better for turning and all around. and for the rim go with the douglas 190 or 160

How do Skat Trak's compared to ITP Sand Star's?

The haulers are a straight paddle tire so they are more for traction than carving bowls. the angled paddles are eiser to turn and spin around on and the sand stars are kinda the best of both worlds being angled paddles and having the smaller inner paddle for extra traction. that helps the sand stars to be faster than the skate 2's for instance in a drag, but the haulers are the best for traction. Basically the stars are a great all around tire.

ya the sand stars have a bigger paddle on it but ive heard in the long run on the beach you will slow way down because of the big paddle. and only get the sanstars if your bike can pull them its a big paddle

If you like trail ridin' in the sand, along with hill climbing, go with the satrs! You will love them. All of my group is on them and love them. Best all around tire I have found.
Stay away from the Gegoes, especially of you have lots of horses in the frame, just don't have good traction. My DS just spun the heak out of them.

Which one last longer? Does one have more sidewall flex then the other?

I run 2lbs. in my rear which has more sidewall flex but gives a noticeable difference in traction. At little Sahare there is alot of blacktop to ride on in the campground and my tires didnt hardly wear at all when we were there. Good tires. Everyone I ride with runs them.

If all you want to do is drag and want the absolute most traction, Haulers are your bet. If you want to slide around and do donughts and just play around and have the lightest tire best for jumping then go with Sand Skate II's. If you want a great play tire with a little more traction than the Skates, then the sand Stars are your bet. They are fairly new. Basically, they are the best of both worlds. Also, the Haulers are the best and most popular straight paddle. The sand Skates are the lightest and by far the best play tire. The Sand Stars are a extremely nice tire at the top of the class too. These are all the top three tires on the market.

Is the Sand Skates II lighter than the Skat Trak Edge?

What about rims? ITP, Douglas...or ???

I don't really drag racing, just jumping and roosting...general playing riding.

Any suggestions on brand?

You can get a ITP kit (sand stars and t-9's) here (http://xopco.com) for a pretty decent price.
