 honda oil is not cheap oil and is in fact very good oil, I used to run mobil 1 15w 50 but they mixed up there line up and don't make it anymore, it is now a extended performance oil with 35% more friction modifiers which i can't see being to healthy for the clutch, however rico has been testing it in his maching and hasn't noticed any clutch slippage that i'm aware of, but I plan on switching to klotz

and now for a spelling lesson :o

synthetic
does

Pro Honda GN4 has been fine for me. It doesn't break down that fast at all, I had it in for 7 months riding all the time and was tan when I drained it. It is not a cheap oil. most on here probably use mobile one red cap. thats a really popular oil but Ill stick with my honda oil.

if you ride your bike like a rental, DONT GET THE GN4, i have personally used it and have seen it turn jet black within 5 hrs of riding. i am switching the bike to amsoil 10w40 synthetic.

BTW: I'm using the Tusk clutch with the HD springs.

I am currently runnign Castrol 10w40 but since spring is here temperature warms up so I'll probably switch to FUCHS ATV 20w50 oil.

I tried using the Mobil 1 red cap (as suggested here) and it totalled my clutch. I guess I got a batch right when they changed thier formula or something. I have went back to the honda oil and have not had any problems.

i switched my bike to Amsoil 10w40 synthetic. i only have 2-3 hrs of riding time on it, but i can tell that its a significantly better oil than the Honda GN4. my quad sees lots of WOT, alot of high rpms, etc etc, and so far, the oil hasn't changed a bit in colour. couldn't say the same about the GN4.

i run Mobil 1 synthetic in my jeep, i swear by synthetics now.

really depends on how you ride, and what kind of temps you're talking about. if it's insanely cold, i'd run 0w40, and in springtime like now, 10w40 should be good. you can get away with running 10w40 in summer, but 20w50 would be better.
