Hey guys, I need help. I' new to these forums and I was wondering if anyone could help me with my EX. If you're able to check out the pics you'll notice that it's in rough shape. I'm praying its not a hopeless case. I really don't know anything about atv engine at all and I really want to fix her. I was thinking one of the big bore kits would do the job, but like I said before I don't know much about these engines and I'm pretty much teaching myself through the forums as I go. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I also have a couple videos if I can ever figure out how to upload them.

mother of god.,,, that could very well possibly the worse 400ex top end i have ever seen,,,,, looks like someone took a waterbottle of water/sand/mud and blew it into the intake, ofcourse we know thats not what happend but thats a good idea of how bad that is,, id say go with a 440 cause you definatly need a new sleeve,,, that should not be loose enough for you to pull out yourself unless you took a hammer to it, heres what id do,, new valves/springs, take it in to a motor specialist,, have them either do a full port job or just a clean up, then have them clean up everything in a heat bench then have them bore the cylinder out and if they can,, have them press the sleeve in for you if they cant they can probably send it off to be sleeved for you, then take everything back,, make sure the rod is good, and the bottom end is ok and clean new oil ofcourse, assemble it new plug, and she should fire,, aslong as the carb isnt as dirty as that engine, the frame looks ok so if you can get the motor bored it should make a good quad.....good luck:D keep us posted

id love to find an ex thats like that. i wouldnt even mess around with that engine. what id do is try to find an engine out of a honda 250 2-stroke dirtbike and retrofit that to work. you have one bad***** quad then. of coarse youd have to redo some motor mount brakets, set up a cooling system and reverse the kick start, but i think itd be worth the effort.

wouldn't it just be cheaper and easier to just bore this one out and mod the hell out of it rather than try to fit a 250r engine on it. Besides, like Yamablaster said, just buy a 250r. What exactly would be the benefit of a 250 engine in a EX frame?. But thanks guys for the help. Keep it coming. I'll definetly keep you guys posted.

I've been looking around the site trying to find the best place to buy bore kits. I was thinking of getting a 426 kit, but I need to find a good place to get the machine work done and where to get the parts.
