I need to get a quad for the wife next month. I am planning buying new from the dealership. I had a 2001 Blaster awhile back and she rode it a few times and loved it. She did have a little trouble shifting and kick starting. I think she would do fine on another Blaster but I really want her to have electric start and possibly auto clutch or tranny.

Which is best, Im buying at www.procycleusa.com so I will include their listed prices......

2004 Blaster $2499
2005 Raptor 350 $3999
2005 TRX250EX $2999
2005 TRX300EX $3999

Price is very important!

sounds like she may be perfect for a 250ex maybe? they dont have much power at all, but are an easy quad to ride and are definatly fun

I read a little more about the 250EX. It sounds like the way to go, I think the electric start and auto clutch will be perfect for her. How do they compare speed and power wise to the Blaster? Can you do a wheelie on them (yes I know you can do a wheelie on anything if you try hard enough)?

Who out there has a 250EX and has spanked a Blaster, and with what mods???

Thanks.....

a blaster will walk all over that thing

I'm getting a 250ex and this is going to be my first quad. I've heard a few stories of some kids beating blasters on a 250ex. But its kinda hard to beat one in a drag race. It can DEFFINATELY keeps up with the blaster on trails and other stuff like that. A stock 250ex goes 51.9 MPH. I read the speed in a dirtwheels review, they clocked it with a speed gun. And if you want to go FASTER:devil: POWROLL make a big bore kit that gives it a 20cc bonus. So stock the 250ex has 229cc's and with the Powroll big bore kit it will have 249cc's!!!! So whenever your wife gets tired of the speed on the quad she can wake it up and go faster! Don't for get you can also jet it and some other engine mods to make it go even faster than the big bore itself would make you go. Also the 250ex features a 35 watt headlight. The only advantage Suzuki Z 250 woul have is better suspension and a slightly higher top speed stock. The Z 250 also has a 40 watt headlight. The only thing its doesn't carry with it is the reliability of HONDA. The 250ex has bigger tires in the back, but you prolly won't need to worrry about that because you prolly take the stock tires off and put some holeshots on.

hope that helps!! ;)

i would go w/ the raptor 350 if i were you. the 250 ex just isnt enough power for her, although it has the auto clutch it is pewny compared to the others listed.

no offense to anyone else ... just my opinion.

I really think the 250EX will work great! She will actually be faster on it because she wont have to mess with the clutch. She will have a much easier time keeping up with me in the trails with the auto clutch. I just need to make sure I carry a tow strap for when she gets it stuck in a mud hole!

Her best friend wants a Quad now, so if she cant keep up with the boys she will have someone to ride slow with!

If she doesn't like to mess with the clutch then an automatic chutch is the way to go, but shifting is still a must. If the clutch isn't the problem them go with what she will fell comfortable riding, as for me I bought my Wife a 250EX because for one she has never reid any motorized bike before, now she loves going out with us (the whole Family) and ride all day.

I think he said he was looking for something for his wife to ride and she was having a hard time shifting and such. It sounds to me like a 250EX would be the cheapest and best bet for her. If I were him and I were going to spend the 4 grand then I would get the 300EX over the Raptor. From what understand from reading his post I don't think his wife is worried about tare a**ing around.

if you have eyes you can see the 250 definetly does not suck, it all depends on the rider

I'd reccomend a 300ex

It does have clutch + shifting.. but you dont really need to use the clutch after you get going. Just let off the gas and shift. I've been doin it for 7 years (including about a dozen MO Hare Scrambles) w/o any tranny issues at all.

Very very very reliable quad. Electric Start & Reverse. (though reverse is a pain.. but the 3 step reachover process can be switched to a standard 2 step process easily.

I just modified mine so I can use my foot to lift the lever on the left side of the engine that way I can't accidentally tear up the tranny ;).

Definatly go 300ex or Blaster though IMHO. A 250ex's lack of power is going to get her into trouble on the steep hills IMHO. If you ride woods at all.

i would suggest the 300ex, and yes the 250ex does suck, although it being an electric start, and suto clutch its a good girl quad.

250ex, just like i said before

300ex will add the confusion of the clutch and the dumb *** reverse, where as the 250ex is just click it down while holdin that button and ur in reverse, then just start clickin up to go forward.. the 300ex's reverse is stupid

My old 250ex was stock, and I beat up Blasters and 300ex's all day long on the trails. Even with the boucey suspention of the smaller bikes, I could get that little bike screaming through trails, leaving everyone else behind and having to wait for bikes with double the power.

For tight trails, the 250 is very fun. I handed mine down to my girlfriend, who has about 20 hours on it now, and she's still pretty shy when it comes to really beating on it and hammering the gears. She has a blast on it... it's nice and quiet, easy to ride, easy to manuver because of the size, etc. The 250ex is the perfect leasurely girls bike, that can also be extremely fun for anyone else.

I have a KFX400, and I still find myself taking the ol 250 out for a few rounds.

Just my opinion/experience.

future 450?

uh dude thers no way a 250ex will beat a 300ex or blaster. mabe ure alot better than the other rider, my cousin got a 250ex nd my friend was drivin it he had that thing screamin lik full out not lettin out the gas at all. nd i was jus shift;n a lil fast it stay'd w/me till lik i was at the middle of 3rd nd then i left it. its not lik my friend sux either he used 2 race drtbikes nd is lik 10x better that me.

I say start her off with a 300ex,400ex, or lik a kfx700.

hmmmm.....can someone point out where he says anything about getting a wheeler for his wife to kick a** with? Electric start, auto clutch or tranny and price is important. It sounds like a 250EX or similar is what he's looking for. If she didn't mind shifting a 300EX would probably be the next bet. I'm not trying to start anything, but not everyone wants to race.

He asked our opinion.

In my opinion, not enough power will get you hurt a LOT more often than if you had a quad with more power. IMHO a stock 300ex is even borderline. Esp, it there's steep hills.

I'd get a 300 and drop the sproket gearing down quite a bit. It will make it easy to ride, plenty of power, forgiving, and gives room to grow.

I understand that and forgive me if I came across as negative toward you and the other posters. What I got from his post was that he wanted something smaller for his wife that had electric start (250EX & 300EX) with an aotu clutch or tranny (250EX).
As far as the 300EX being borderline, I have no problems with my 250X crawling up steep and rocky hills and with the exception of a UNI air filter it is bone stock and I weight 200 pounds without clothes. He also said that "Price is very important!"

Sorry I wasn't trying to flame.

No worries, didn't take it as a flame. :)

Depending on the riding style, a 250ex will work just fine as long as the terrain isn' too nasty.

When I said steep hills, I meant a 150ft+ run at a 45deg incline. Where HP is very important for maintaining speed.

I was just thinking a 300ex would be cheaper in the long run because you wouldn't have to worry about the wife wanting to upgrade in a year. ;)

But if he's just planning on putting around in the woods for a little carefree riding the 250ex is perfect.

I have a skewed point of view. I ride pretty hard. ;)

Get a used 250ex.. clean it up. Let her use it.. and when she wants to upgrade get a used 400ex. ;)

Used is the way to go, as long as it was taken care of. Most 250ex's are probably in pretty good shape. Us in the rougher crowd tend to ride higher CC machines. :)

As a chick who doesn't want to kick start my quad or mess with a clutch, I love my 250ex. I would recommend the ease of riding the 250ex to anyone.

My only complaint is the front shocks are too stiff and with no way to adjust them.

i dont see why everyone is cutin on the 250 i have one and i keep right up wiht my freind on his 300 i can even beat him in the woods i can do anything he can do and as far as underpowerd i can ride wheelies forever on that thing and you would need a pretty damn long and steep hill to stop the 250 not one time yet have i had to downshift going up a hill and i have gone up some big ones it may not be the fastest but i ride side by side with my freinds 300 when we are both full out 5th and i just put a hmf full on it but i need to rejet the carb still and that should add some power to help out on the speed thing and to me the 250 sounds like a perfect quad for his wife fun, easy to ride, go anywhere. do anything quad

i would have never said this until i raced one at the 12 hours in october but yes, definatly look into the kymco mongoose 250. its electric start, full auto tranny, amazing brakes and they are a little faster than a 250ex, they also repond very well to motor mods
