I am assuming you mean Anti-Virus? Somebody tipped me off to Avast anti virus. The home version is free. I had Norton on my PC uninstalled it and installed AVAST. I am Virus Free. I Like it allot. But that is my opinion. I would also install the Firefox browser. It is just as easy as Internet explorer to use and it is alot safer.

These are just my opinions, you should research any program before installing it on your PC to see if it is best for you.

My sister and Brother in law had Norton on their PC. They had Viruses all the time. I had to reinstall windows due to other reasons. I installed AVAST instead of Norton and they have been Virus free ever since. Unlike most free Anti Virus programs, AVAST will keep you updated all the time.

Anytime a new Virus hits the web your PC is exposed until your antivirus product comes up with a cure, Wich is usually in a timely matter. Then it is up to you to get the updates. Without the updates your virus software doesnt know to look for the new virus and that is true to all antivirus software no matter what flavor you run.

I've had good luck with Trojan so far. Oh, were talking computer viruses...:p

Seriously though, www.avast.com. Download the Home Edition. It works very well. We use it on all of our work computers here and I use it at home.

DO NOT BUY AND INSTALL NORTON ANTI-VIRUS!!!!!! Just take my word for it, but if you wish, I can give you reasons.

My compuiter is always up to date with the latest and I still got one, I did try that Avast last year once( I think thats what it was:confused: ) and it found 4 viruses that Norton did NOT. I was unfamiliar with how to use it so I just went back to what I already had and just bought a newer version, but needed up with the same problem with viruses.

Tina, I'm telling ya, Avast is the way to go. It's free and updates itself automatically, unlike NAV. I know I'll help you with the program if you have any questions. IMO it's very easy to install and there is not much you have to do except keep it turned on, it'll do the rest itself.

Buy an apple computer. Viruses don’t infect them.

i have an apple, and have had no problems with viruses. it's great. maybe they dont bother making as many for them because fewer people and businesses use them? i dont know.

any Technican will Tell you ANY antivirus is better than none. If you were to buy an antivirus i would suggest Norton. If going for a free one AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/doc/71/lng/us/tpl/tpl01) Works great.
norton can have its issues but just know that there will be NO antivirus that will catch them all. some will catch more than others. some will find things others cant. just pick one you are happy with the interface and go with it.

AVG is pretty hard to work with for a novice. Again, Avast is by far your best free antivirus program. DO NOT INSTALL NORTON!!!! IT IS THE WORST ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM OUT THERE!!! I don't know how else to tell you!

...I guess no one listen's to me... Oh well...do what you please. But believe me, these problems are what I do for a living, so I think I know a little bit about what I'm saying...but then again, maybe not:ermm:

I agree Zephead. I like AVAST alot. The best way to avoid getting a virus is to stay away from sites that allow you to download for free. Like free porn sites and most all peer to peer networks like limewire and morpheus.

I Agree with you about the norton thing but. Being in this field, there are a lot of people that think that anything that is free for a computer will not work well. I prefer Norton over mcafee, and i prefer AVG over Avast. but like i had said before ANY antivirus WILL help. Dont spend your money on an anti virus software when there is free ones that are availible. Avast will be great for any home user. so will AVG. Download one and see, if you dont like it try the other one.

I may have to try some of the free stuff again and see how I like it ...

IMO the only thing better about McAfee over NAV, is the size of the program. NAV is roughly 27mb which is absolutely huge for any program, especially one that performs like dog poo! And good luck uninstalling NAV; unless you know the registry registry keys which are created by Norton, you cannot "officially" uninstall the program.

Ad-aware, Spybot, etc. will not protect you against any virus, nor does it protect you from anything. All those services do is once you run a manual scan they will try to detect and try to remove spyware/adware programs. But a large majority of these programs are smarter than the programs and are unable to remove the install files. What this means is that the files that are created by the install files are removed, but after your computer restarts, the install file is still there and reinstalls the files these services just removed.

QJ: because you don't browse porn sites, gaming sites, etc. that does not mean that you won't be infected by spyware. If you go to a website that has animated banners and things of the such, you can and usually will be infected. Anymore, spyware/adware is more troublesome than viruses.

I could go on and on about this crap, but I won't, haha!

The best way to protect your computer , is to not have one at all . I'm always getting screwed with viruses and spyware . I have Norton installed on ym PC but am too lazy to learn how to use it . This whole thing about Updating Definitions ?? Start is Safe Mode ?? ..... They would have as much success getting me to learn it , if it were in chinese .

I run an adware program for spyware ... so far Ive done 300 scans and pulled out over 4000 spyware thingies... but it's still on my computer everytime I reboot . I'm gunna snap soon and just buy a new computer or pay someone to fix it ... I dont have the patience for it .
