stock for stock youll get more power and a little more speed out of the z400 but i personally dont like the handleing of the z/kfx 400s,, they are top heavy and the seat seems to "cup" the balls if you ask me,,,it just seems like the 400ex has alot more control, and the z400 wants to constantly 2 wheel on corners,, where on 400ex its a little more controllable,, id get a 450r tho,, itll out do both:D

same thing happened to me a year ago this month. choosing between a brand new z-400 and a brand new 400ex. I've never ridden a z-400, but i really love my EX. I honestly could care less about having reverse.

yes i would agree the kfx can be built into a faster machine

but stock for stock the kfx has only 2 more horsepower than the 400ex. i ride with a piped kfx and we are dead even in every type of racing if driven correctly. in drags we have the same experience and it depends on who gets the holeshot but on the track i kill him. we have this long straight that goes into a jump and you can top out for a lil while then BOOM its air time. he is a pu$$y and wont do it

I didn't want the added maintenance headaches that can come with liquid cooled machines. There's more stuff to go wrong unexpectedly and end your day early. I don't like the way the plastic overflow container and fan shrouding are right up behind the front wheels, begging to have objects kicked up into them. Not having reverse can suck, especially for a trail bike, but I'll take the reliability advantage in exchange for having to get off and drag the ***-end around every once in a while. It's light enough I can lift it with one hand anyways.
