The other day I ran some 93 octane in my stock 99 400, and it ran like crap. There was a huge lag in the throttle response compared to running 87 or 89. Is this due to the higher ignition temp?

i have a 416ex and it runs much better with 93 than 87 or89.But when my motor was stock 89 ran the cleanest.

I agree. You must have got some bad gas or something else was wrong. 93 is better, cleaner and ususally non oxygenated which means theres no ethenol. The ignition temp being higher is to prevent compression firing in high compression engines. Gas will fire when the sparkplug tells it to reguardless of what octane it is.
