View Full Version : Question about jets themselves, not jetting.

I went to but some new jets today, and I have a question. The main jet that came out of my carb (146) is shorter with a straight screw driver slot in it, and that went into a hex adapter. The Honda shop I went to only had mains that were longer with a hex head only. Do these replace both my jet and adapter, or were these not the right jets? I did not buy any yet, in case they are the wrong ones. Thanks for your help.

the jet in the wheeler is a "dyno jet" and the number are not the same as stock jets. you would have to take out the adapter to put a stock jet back in and up one size to equal the same size

thanks

a DJ 146 should be = to a keihein 150. there is no cross ref that i no of but for stock setting DJ uses 142 and the stock keihein is 148

Here are some pics of the jet on the right and the adapter on the left. Is this a dyno-jet then?? The jet itself is stamped "146".

And this is exactly how my jets look all assembled. Stole this pic from the FAQ section.

that is a dyno jet. it took a 9/32 to get it out right? did you buy the wheeler used? the dyno jets come in a kit with a bunch of jets and a needle. how come you dont have the other jets and instructions?

OK. Good that means my jetting is OK then. Their instruction on their website say to run their 146 with aftermarket exhuast and filter and the airbox lid on, which is how mine is setup.

When I wind it out and let of the throttle, as the RPM's come down, it pops a little bit. Should I up the pilot?? It is still the stock 38.

Yes I bought it used, thats how it came when I got it.

check to see if the fuel screw is 3.5 turns out from lightly seated.

yep, 42pj should fix that up. you might be able to let enough fuel in through the stock pilotjet but you dont want to screw it out more than 3.5turns to get it to.

Should I do that and not mess with the pilot jet?? It runs good and pulls hard everywhere on the throttle position. The poping is the only thing that seems not right. The mixture screw should fix that, correct??

Big Guns website recommends a 40 Pilot, so thats what I was going to go with. I'll check the mixture screw setting, if it is not at 3.5 turns out from seated, I am just going to set that and call it good.

Put everything back together tonight, and I checked the idle mixture screw. It was only about 1.75 turns out from seated. I put it at 3 turns out from seated, and now when I decelerate, it only pops once or twice, and it starts better and idles smoother. So overall, I am pretty happy.:D

the dyno jet instructions say 3.5 turns out and that should take care of it.

I think I will back it out another .5 turns and see what happens.

I hope this is not too off topic but I am running a stock 400ex and it is rich with the stock 148 jet. I bought a 145 and 140 b/c the dealer said this will help. I am running at 7000ft elevation what are all of your thoughts?

if your bike is 100% stock, i would try the 145 first.
