when i shut my 400ex off, gas continuously runs out the overflow tube until i actually turn the gas off. it's pretty much been sitting all winter. i'm guessing i have to pull the carb and clean it. float is probably stuck. sounds like a good time to order some new jets for my pipe i'm trying to buy.:ermm:

same thing happend to me, just take apart the carb and check where the float pin seats. I had dirt blocking mine and it did not seat all the way.

took it apart and cleaned it good with carb cleaner and blew it out with an air hose and it still does the same thing. I'm going to buy a jet kit regardless, but do I also need a rebuild kit for the float needle?

is that all i need? i'm going to get a 42 pilot for easier starts and i'm going to go up a size on my main since i have a K&N with no lid.

What you said makes sense. Make those changes, and you should be all right.

Again, the only thing that could possibly be the problem would be the carb.

Good luck.

what a rip!!! the dealer charged me $22 for the float needle, $9 for a 42 pilot and $6 for a 155 main

yeah when ever that happens,,, usually its because of a dirt clog in the needle, you could have pumped on the float a few times to get it to stop,,, works for me,, but you can also take the needle out and see if the seat is grooved,, if so it does need replaced

Where the needle seats, the brass!, Take TOOTH paste on a Q-tip and swab that a little, CARB cleaner wont always get all that out. Then after u feel its been wiped enuf with the tooth paste, then get some clean Q-tips and clean all the paste outa the seat. then check your needle and make sure there is no sand or dirt and reinstall it! should be good as new.
