This is my next restoration project. It's a '68 firebird that I've owned for 14 years. While it looks pretty good, I'm hoping to have a show quality car when it's finished.

Thats an awsome lookin car, good luck with it.

I'm getting a bronco that gonna have some work to it. It is getting a brand new motor, it's a v-8 but I'm not shure what size it's gonna be and I'm kinda scared cause my friend who I'm buying it from her uncle is buying all the parts and I hope he doesn't get some giant motor. And it's gonna get compleatley re painted with some kind of sick paint job.

i love learning about muscle cars and i don't know alot about the old firebirds so mayb u can answer this for me...

i thought the firebirds were exactly the same as the old camaros and the biggest motor they offered was a 396???? did the firebirds have big blocks from the factory???? i've never heard of a 428...

and if they had a 428 from the factory i'm really confused because they were called trans ams right??? if so u had to have a 302 to race in the trans am series:confused: why would they name a car that couldn't race in the trans am series haha

just has me curious now!!! haha

btw thats a SWEET CAR!!! i hope to own a nice muscle car soon as my insurance prices will drop...

Nice Firebird. I'm hooked on all of that R/C crap. It's a total waste of money, but I can't stop.:D

I don't have any pics of it right now but My dad and I am going to put a h22/h23 prelude hybird motor into a hatchback civc. The motor is currently in my brothers prelude but he got ran off the road and totaled it out. This is not a ricer eathier, this motor is pushing 300 hp. After we get the motor out we are going to give it a 4 angle valve job, port & poilsh it then attach it to a LSD tranny. The civc is going to be stripped down to nothing to get rid of unneeded chit. The interior is going to be two racing seats and a CF dash. When we are done we are hoping to be at 300 HP at the wheels and running in the high 11's or low 12's in the quater. I will post pics of the motor tommrow when I get on my comp at home.

Anything is a ricer unless it has that American car/truck V-8 sound.

Until about 1980, Pontiac built their own V8's in various sizes. From 67 to 69 the biggest factory installed V8 in Firebirds was the 400. It was available with three or four different horsepower ratings, from 325HP in the standard, and several Ram Air motors up to 345HP. All of the Firebird 400's were supposedly GTO motors with a throttle stop installed to limit horsepower, or so I'm told. The 428 in my car was actully out of a 68 Bonneville, and it was available in all full size Pontiacs from 67-69. In stock form it was rated at 375HP and almost 500 ft. lbs. of torque. In the late 60's, Royal Pontiac, a dealer in Michigan I believe, was installing the 428's in brand new Firebirds and selling them to the public, much like Yenko did with the 427 in Camaros. They are extremely rare and worth an unbelievable amount of money.

The displacement limit in Trans Am racing at the time was 305 cubic inches, and when Pontiac released the first Trans Am in 1969, they had developed a 303 motor for the car, and I think they actually raced it, but because of reliability issues and the fact that it was an extremely high RPM motor, they killed the plans to put it in the car. Because of this, all 69 Trans Ams came with 400's, making them illegal for racing. There were only 697 Trans Ams built in 1969, including 8 convertibles. All of them were white with 2 blue stripes down the hood, roof and deck lid. They had a unique hood, functional fender scoops, and a rear wing that were available on Trans Ams only. Because of the low production number, real 69 TA's are rarely, if ever, seen, but there's alot of fakes out there. :ermm:

The 428 is a Pontiac motor too. It replaced the 421, and the 428 was replaced by the 455 in 1970.

That bird brings a tear to my eye. I drove a 68 bird to school in 95.
Had to part with it and get something I could drive year round.
Dam I wish I still had that car.

Info: That car came with a inline 6cyl over head cam
327 v8 or 350 v8 or 400 v8
And all were pontiac motors

I lost the photo album that had my only pics of the car.
Spent one year with my dad restoring that car, best year of my youth. Geting married to the girl that went to prom with me in that car in the fall.

Did I mention I miss that car!

It was a joke guys. Take it easy. I just like big gas guzzling flowmastered v-8 cars and trucks.
