In less than a week, the riders have headed a few hundred miles north of Florida to Washington, GA for Round #3 of the GNCC Series. Aonia Pass Motocross Park once again is the Georgia destination for the third year.

By 11:00AM this morning, over 300 riders have already arrived at Aonia Pass to get a head start at finding a good parking spot and check out the track.

Admin
03-11-2005, 04:55 PM
Level spots were few and far between on this rolling hill terrain, so even the vendors were forced to compensate. The hydraulic lift system on the Maxxis rig made it appear to be hovering in position.

Unlike the wet conditions at Aonia Pass the past two years from heavy rains before and during the weekend, conditions this year are dry!

Jeff Russell was out early watering down the entrance rode to keep the dust down.

The start location for the race is once again located on the east side of the MX track. On the start the riders will go around a few turns before heading into the woods.

Admin
03-11-2005, 05:08 PM
They will immediately encounter a virgin section of track with multiple possible lines for them to pick from as they follow the arrows stapled to the trees.

Admin
03-11-2005, 05:09 PM
The track may be dry, but racer productions has thrown in a few water crossings and mud holes to keep things interesting.

Admin
03-11-2005, 05:13 PM
Buren Hamrick was busy building a last minute dirt bridge across the river after deciding not to use the wooden bridge that they originally planned to use for the race.

Admin
03-11-2005, 05:18 PM
After a short woods sections the riders are dumped back onto the MX track which consists on some very easy table tops and double jumps, but there are also some huge table tops and doubles thrown in that will challenge even the best riders if they attempt to clear the gap.

Admin
03-11-2005, 05:21 PM
After the MX section, the track heads back along the perimeter of the woods where many riders have parked to pit during the race. The track then will renter the mx track and then head deep into the woods for some technical riding and back out into some of the fields for some high speed sections.

Admin
03-11-2005, 05:27 PM
At the end of the lap, the riders are dropped back onto the MX track where the finish line is located on top of a uphill jump, but I am little concerned about the position of the finish line because if a rider launches the uphill they could jump into the finish line.

Admin
03-11-2005, 05:29 PM
Once the riders are scored for the beginning of lap two they will be faced with two different possible lines.

Admin
03-11-2005, 05:32 PM
If the riders decide to go straight, which is the shortest path; the riders will drop down a hill into drainage pond silt field and be forced to climb a steep hill up out of the bottom.

Admin
03-11-2005, 05:35 PM
At first this line may look inviting, but upon closer inspection, A rider will see that the alternative may be the better choice or face the risk of quickly becoming stuck in some Georgia clay.

Admin
03-11-2005, 05:37 PM
The alternative goes around the drainage pond which which fast and dry, but will add atleast a few hundred feet over the short alternative route.

Admin
03-11-2005, 05:39 PM
Rick & Traci Cecco decide to checkout the alternative line to see how much time would be lost by taking the bypass.

Traci still is extremely sore for her dismount this past weekend in Florida and she is still trying to avoid moving her neck, and she may or may not be racing tomorrow.

03-11-2005, 05:45 PM
After Jeff Russell was finished watering down the roads, he headed out to check out the track one last time and use his GPS system to create a map of the track.

Precision Racing Products where showing off their new steering dampner, which they claim is better than any stablizer ever produced. George was busy explaining their stablizer to many of the Pro riders and encouraged some of them to try it out, so Johnny Gallagher, Jeremy Rice, and few others decided to give it a try this weekend is see if it is everything they claim it to be.

A view of their dampner installed on Jeremy Rice's 450R. The dampner's aren't currently available for sale, but they are in production and will be available in the near future.

Peter Stadtmueller wasn't trying out something as radical as a new steering dampner, but Johnny Gallagher was able to talk him into trying out some Powermaid Handguards on his 450R, so Pet was busy getting them installed while waiting for rider registration to open.

The tireballs crew started early Friday mounting tires and installing tireballs for some new customers.

If you are looking to get tireballs installed at the track, it is recommended that you arrive early Friday if you want them installed before the racing on Saturday

As the morning turned into the Afternoon, the winds began picking up from the west with gust over 30 MPH, which had Jay quickly trying to take down his Maxxis canopy before it was shredded in the wind.

Admin
03-11-2005, 06:37 PM
The Lewis racing crew couldn't react quick enough to the strong winds and their Easy Up tents with twisted up in the wind with the one snapping in several sections after being blown over by the strong winds.

The strong winds out of the west are suppose to continue into tomorrow with winds speeds sustained around 15 MPH with gust over 30MPH, which will work great at clearing out the dust tomorrow, but everyone better secure there stuff if they don't want it to blow away.

Temps were in the upper 50's today and are expected to climb in the 60's tomorrrow after a chilling start in the 30's tomorrow morning.

03-11-2005, 06:39 PM
The Ballance, Team Safari, Four Stroke Tech, and others all decided to either take down or not even put up their canopies because of the winds, so Brandon Ballance drove this YFZ back into the trailer before they took down the Easy Up.

The Pro Pits didn't look the same without all the bright colored Easy Ups, but they didn't have much choice.

Riders Registration trailer arrived late in the afternoon, so many riders rushed over to get registered before the rush Saturday morning.

Also, don't forget about the online registration available at the GNCC website to avoid the lines.

As the sunset on this Friday, the riders lined up to get through tech inspection.

Check back on Saturday for updates throughout the day from the track. I must warn you that cellphone reception is very poor, so the updates may be hampered, but we will be doing our best to bring you live updates during the race.

Saturday Morning, the wind wasn’t nearly as brisk as it was on Friday, so the pros begin to setup their canopies early in the morning before many of the spectators arrived.

Santo Derisi and his crew were bundled up early Saturday morning with temps in the 40’s as they inspected the motocross track and the changes that racer production made to the track Friday evening for the morning race.

The mud hole would not be an option for the morning racers as they will be forced to go around drainage pound, but it would be remarked for the afternoon race.

Both Saturday and Sunday Morning, Racer Productions provides a short church service for the racers, and John Ayers preached the word on this Saturday morning.

The racing action at a GNCC actually begins as early as one hour before the race even begins as many riders rush to the starting area to lineup in a staging area and wait to be released to line up on their starting row.

Admin
03-19-2005, 10:34 AM
Around 9:45 the riders are released from the staging area and the mad dash to their starting row is underway, and these photos were provided under Extremely dangerous conditions and I would recommend others to stay clear of the starting area when the riders are released to lineup :D

Admin
03-19-2005, 10:34 AM
Stock Class riders, Michael Sroka Jr and Will Cashion made it to the line early to secure their starting positions and with some classes having over 30+ riders, the good starting positions are quickly filled and the late arrivals are forced to start on the far inside or outside.

Admin
03-19-2005, 10:34 AM
Amazingly a completely empty field is filled with hundreds of ATVs and people in less than 5 minutes.

Admin
03-19-2005, 10:35 AM
As always, my good friend, Fred Mudd, is at the starting area looking to capture the moments and share them with the members of ATVriders.com. Fred was one of the 1st people besides Kenny to actually starting helping me with race coverage at the beginning of last year, and he has been responsible for providing many of the morning action photos that you all have come to enjoy, and he will also be writing the majority of the morning race reports this year.

Fred easily takes several hundred photos at each event and they will all be available online in a photo gallery for you to view and even purchase for a very reasonable price in the near future.

Women’s Class

#201 Stephanie Parton was all smiles on the line for the start of Round #3 after taking home her first win of the season in Florida after crashing hard in Texas which dropped her back to a third place finish.

Admin
03-19-2005, 10:35 AM
#202 Traci Cecco suffered a serious neck injury in Florida and was forced to quit the race early after leading for three laps. It was questionable if she would race as of yesterday, but she decided to atleast give it a try and not disappoint the fans that have come out to watch her race.

To help stabilizer her sore neck, Traci wore and EVS neck braces to help protect her neck from further injury.

Jean Lovely skipped Florida after finishing 5th in Texas, but will most likely be at the rest of the races this year.

03-19-2005, 10:36 AM
#219 Stefanie Verkade finished 4th last season in her 1st full season in the highly competitive women’s class after years of battling with the boy’s in District 6. Stefanie is once again in the mix of things this season after a 3rd place finish in Florida as she strives to become one the next women champions.

Alba Action, Traci Cecoo, put her YFZ out front around the 1st turn with Angel Atwell and Team Suzuki, Stephanie Parton in third

Admin
03-19-2005, 10:38 AM
By the 2nd turn the top three women had already pulled away from the pack and began to battle for the front position. Stephanie Parton held tight on the inside in an attempt to take the lead, but fell short of passing Traci, but was able to move past Angel in 2nd place.

Next to round the 2nd turn was Ashlie Whaley with Stefanie Verkade and Jean Lovely in chase.

Admin

By the end of the 1st lap, Traci Cecco maintained her lead as the top three women came through the check point back to back within 2 seconds of each other.

Admin
03-19-2005, 10:38 AM
Angel Atwell had moved back up to 2nd place, and was staying within 5 seconds of Traci in the lead with Stephanie Parton in hot pursuit only a few seconds behind Angel as they pulled over a three minute lead over the rest of the class.

Erika Jones was holding onto the 4th spot

Admin
03-19-2005, 10:39 AM
Jean Lovely was only a few seconds behind Erika and was applying the pressure in an attempt to make the pass as Jennifer Albright was also looking for her opportunity to get around Jean as these three women battle for position.

Before the end of the lap, both Jean and Jennifer would go on to pass Erika with Jennifer also making her move on Jean and taking over the 4th spot

Admin
03-19-2005, 10:39 AM
By the end of the 2nd lap, amazingly the top three women (Traci, Stephanie, Angel) remained in a tight group with Traci in the lead as she gets some encouragement from her husband Rick.

Stephanie and Angel swapped positions once again for Stephanie taking over the 2nd Spot as she roost her way through a turn chasing after Traci’s dust cloud.

Admin
03-19-2005, 10:41 AM
By the 3rd lap, Angel Atwell would once again make her way around Stephanie and move back into the 2nd spot behind Traci Cecco who remained in the lead.

Jean Lovely continued her battle with Jennifer for the 4th spot as she was able to capitalize on a mistake by Jennifer and move back up to 4th place but over 8 minutes behind the top three.

With less than one mile to go, Traci passed by in the lead and would go on to win her 2nd race of the year.

03-19-2005, 10:44 AM
The battle for the 2nd spot between Stephanie Parton and Angel Atwell was intense the entire race with them swapping positions several times through the race for one of the most exciting races in GNCC women’s race that I have ever seen as these incredible racers stayed together the entire race.

Admin
03-19-2005, 10:45 AM
Stephanie Parton was able to hold onto the 2nd spot at the finish with Angel Atwell right behind her as she proved that she now has the speed to hang with the Traci and Stephanie which will make for some exciting racing to watch as the points chase draws tight for these three women.

The women’s class battle wasn’t just with the front runners as Jennifer Albright once again was able to pass Jean Lovely to take 4th place with Jean Lovely finishing in 5th.

Stefanie Verkade also made a last minute pass on Erica Jones to take the 6th spot with Erika finishing only 2 seconds behind her in 7th.

Super Senior Class

#651 Dan Easley made his return to GNCC racing after skipping all of last year. Dan normally only attends a couple of races a year, and I guess he just got the bug again.

Jay Condon cuts it up with fellow super senior riders before the race as usual. Jay almost called it quits for this season after a serious wreck in West Virginia that prevented him from racing the rest of the season. I was surprised to see him in Texas, and he hasn’t missed race since.

It is great to have you back Jay and try to stay on all four wheels this season, so you can have many more to come.

Admin

The Super Senior’s no longer start on the same row as the women since the classes have grown this year, so they start one minute back on the 2nd row.

The start of the race had Thomas Waybright grabbing the Holeshot on his YFZ with Billy Burton making a great effort with his Grizzly to hang tight around the turn. Class favoritie, Johnny Gallagher Sr, was off to a slow start as he swung his hybrid 250R/YFZ around the inside.

Admin
03-19-2005, 10:47 AM
By the 2nd Turn, Johnny Gallagher made up for his slow start and charged his way up to 2nd place with Billy Burton, Jay Condon, Dan Easley, and others in chase.

Admin
03-19-2005, 10:47 AM
As they headed up the hill over the rolling jumps, Johnny Gallagher was able to pull himself within striking distance of Thomas Waybright and would go on to make the pass and take over the lead shortly afterwards.

After a terrific 1st few turns, Billy Burton’s Grizzly shut off on him as he was running in third place and ended his day as soon as it got started.

Johnny Gallagher continued his winning ways in dramatic fashion as he went on to win the race by over 10 minutes and improved upon his season best overall with a 14th Overall.

Great racing Johnny, you give us young fellow inspiration that we have plenty of years of racing left and could only hope to be in the same shape as you when we reach your super senior status.

Thomas Waybright scored another 2nd Place finish in hopes of building up some points before rival Ken Vickerd joins the series once again next round in Steele Creek if history repeats itself. Ken kicked off the series last year in NC and went on to nudge out Thomas for 2nd Overall in a tight points race.

Stock Class

The women have dominated the AM racing for the past few years, but with the manufacturers stepping up and getting involved in ATV racing, the stock ATVs are becoming faster and better equipped for racing right off the show room floor, so the Stock riders are now starting to dominate the morning races and replace the women on the Podium.

Matt Hanna put on an incredible show in Florida on how to handle a stock YFZ through some of the roughest terrain racer production could throw at him. Matt endured the rough conditions and worked his way to the front to pass Billy Good the long time class favorite and win the stock class and take the Overall by over 3 minutes.

With racer Production stepping up their coverage, they interviewed Matt on the line at round #3.

I (Harlen Foley) have had a rough start to the season similar to last year. I ran in the top three for the entire race in Texas, but ended up colliding with lapped rider less than mile from the finish which knocked me out of top three overall. In Florida, I became ill with the Stomach Flu the morning of the race, and needless to say, I wasn’t able to finish the race without making an extended pit stop, which dropped me back to finish 9th Overall and 8th in the Stock Class.

I headed into Georgia feeling great and looking for podium finish.

Mark Rhodes originally planned to skip out on the series this year to build a house, but the temptation was too much, and with three friends (Shawn Collins, Salvatore Constantion, and Shanna Bradshaw) headed to the races, he made the trip to both Florida and Georgia.

After not riding much over the winter, Mark wasn't his typical self in Florida, but he was feeling much better heading into Georgia.

Brian Aldridge(Hair Daddy) cut off his long hair this year, so I don't know what we will call him now:confused: Brian raced four races last year in the C Class and finished in the top three several times with a win at "The Patriot."

Bonnie Hamrick also helps provide many of the photos from the Morning GNCC races and also write all the MidEast Series Race Reports. Thanks for all your help Bonniie, and without all the support I receive from my friends and members, the race coverage wouldn't be nearly what it is today.

Chris Neal was the first rider to round the turn on this 450R with Brian Toney close behind on his YFZ450. Will Cashion hangs to the inside as he rounds the pole with Billy Good eating some roost as he charges up from behind the leaders.

Admin
03-20-2005, 12:40 PM
Before the 2nd turn, Will Cashion dismounted his 450R unexpectedly and tumbled in front of 30 Stock Class riders and luckily everyone was able to steer clear of him and he quickly remounted his 450R and returned to the race.

Florida's winner,Matt Hanna and Harlen Foley were running mid pack looking to make up some ground as they chased after the leaders.

I (Harlen) picked the wrong rider to follow on a 450R as he nailed a tree in front of me and came to a stop. I locked up the brakes, which caused Jarod McClure to rear end me and slam me into the 450R. Needless to say, by the time we got going again, Will Cashion had already passed us. I found myself in last place after less than 1/2 mile into the race, so I knew this was going to be a long day

It didn't take Billy Good long to get out front and begin pulling away from the rest of the class. By the end of the 2nd lap, he had pulled to within 20 Seconds of Traci Cecco leading the Women's Class which started two minutes ahead of the Stock Class.

Matt Hanna super aggressive riding style caused himself to get stuck early in the 1st lap trying to make a pass, which actually aloud me to catch pass him as I began to pick off riders one by one.

Matt Hanna would charge up behind me and made a daring pass on me and Salvatore Costantion as Matt bumped wheels with Sal making the pass. I too would go onto pass Sal and catch up to Jarrod McClure and Will Cashioin running along in a train of about 5 stock class riders. I made the decision to a line through a puddle and passed all five at one shot as I started making up some time.

By the end of the 1st lap, I worked my way up to 17th and hit the MX track in the top 15 and made the pass on Stefanie Verkade over a jump then the next double I cleared the Z400 stalled. It started right up, but it would only idle and would shut off if I gave it any gas. Brandon Sommers ran over and tried to help to get it running, but we could only figure it was something in the carb or electrical, so my day was over :(

I went into phase two early, grabbed my camera and head out and started taking some photos :D

Wayne Shay was running strong on his YFZ in third place, but I was shocked to see he never had goggles on from the beginning of the race:confused:

He would ended up nevering completing the last lap for unkown reasons, but I hope it wasn't related to his eyes because it was extremely dusty.

Matthew Edens also picked up a spot with Wayne out of the race and moved up to 4th less than 15 seconds behind Mark Rhodes.

Dave Heider also dropped out of the race in 6th place after 3 laps which allowed the hard charging Matt Hanna to move all the way up to 6th place after dropping back to around 25th place early in the 1st lap.
