I recently installed a 416 kit and XR cam as well as getting the head ported. After making sure that the quad would start with the recent mods, I removed the choke and installed a number 40 pilot.

The first time I rode, it ran great and started easy. I ran through the break in procedures as specified on this site.

Today, I tried to start it. I was very hard to start, even using the gas twice and start method. When I finally got it to start, it would not idle at all and occasionally back fired. I adjusted the slow air screw to about 3 turns +- out and it began to idle and stopped backfiring.

How much is too much to turn the slow screw out?

I have a number 42 pilot available, would that help with the parameters listed here:

416 10.8:1
XR cam
White Bros e-series
white bros rev limiter
Dyno Jet 170 main
no choke
1300 ft elevation
mild climate
mild ported head

Put the #42 in and set the mixture screw out 2- 2 1/2 turns.

The White Brothers rev limiter is been known to make it harder to start. If I were you I would swap them out and see if it is still hard to start. I have noticed that alot of poeple put in a 42 piolt for easier starting.

Removing the choke allows for a better less restricted airflow through the carb.

I'd also put the stock CDI back on when dialing in a carb,,and also put in a 42 pilot and put the fuel screw back to stock position.
