Sick bro just sick! What year is it? 72 or so? I love it, how hard is it to find a bed, or is it just off for time being? Also i think it would be tight to get spray in bedliner instead of carpet in the cab! :o

how much was the truck then how much for the rebuild?

In my opinion I would swap out for a 460 if it's within your budget. The problem with a modified is you're running small block displacement with the weight of a big block. Also, there aren't a ton of performance parts for a 351M like there are either your windsor blocks or else the 460s. I believe the modifieds had an oiling problem also but I can't remember for sure.

Whatever you do, do NOT make the mistake that almost every first time engine builder makes. That mistake is getting the biggest possible cam that you can find. This will not get you the power you're looking for and may actually make your truck run worse. The cam you're looking for will have about .450" lift and will have a duration rating @ .050" of around 205. Your lobe separation needs to be around 112 degrees(this is assuming you stick with the 351M).

What you will get with this cam is a very nice idle, somewhat lopey, you'll get excellent torque and a healthy midrange. You won't get top end power but it's a 4x4, you don't want that.

If you already knew all of this information then sorry. I've just seen the cam selection mistake made way too many times. No one ever wants to listen until they get ready to yank that motor they just built because it doesn't run right.

very nice. I thought about doing roughly the same thing, but with gas going up to 2.50 plus, and all the driving i do, it would not be practical. Nothing like the nostalgic feeling, and the sound of a V8. I love that sound. Im getting tired of the 4 banger sound.

Sweet! I love the late seventies Fords. Especially the round headlights (which I believe were an option in '79). One of the best looking trucks ever made.
