Whats gearing do you run and how do you like it..

Just curious, I havent really seen anybody really post about what gearing they run.. like a 15/39 or whatever.. How do you like it? Just so we can all get some ideas what the best route is if we're racing. trail ridin, flat trackin... post'em up!! :D :cool: :macho

Anybody rockin a 16 tooth in the front? Just wonderin what kinda torque loss, but top-end gain it gets?

i ran 14/38 for a long time and really like it for the trails. i had to be careful with the clutch cause you can stand it up through 3rd gear real easy. i just went back to 15 tooth and forgot how much top end you lose with the 14 tooth. its is kinda preference what you want to run depending on where you ride. try both, the sprocket is cheap and if you dont like it switch it back.

i have a 14 in front and i mostly ride trails. its got plenty of torque for the woods and enough top end for the ride over there.
Im goin to Little Sahara easter week. I'll try it there too i guess...?

i had 14/38 for the longest time and i love it but now im dropping the backs to 18s for MX and im gonna go back to 15/38 which is stock for the 400 ex. hoipefully it will feel the same as it does right now with the 14 in front and the 20s on the back.

Yea, I'm running 16/38 with 18 inch turf tamers, 426 with 11:1 piston, stage 2 hotcam. Still working on jetting, but really like the power from bottom to top so far.

Thats what I was thinkin about doin.. the 16/38.. should still be a monster comin outta the corners.. but not so lite in the front anymore.. i also run the 18s in the rear so.. that helps on the butt dyno!!

I run 16/38 most of the time, sometimes 15/36. For mx with the 18's i like the 16/38. For trails with 20 inch tires, the 15/36 combo gives me a little more grunt.

As much power as my motor makes I dont notice much loss on the bottom and it screams on top. And I can still do 5th gear wheelies.

i run stock 15/38 gearing on my 426 with 20" holeshots. i mostly trail ride and play around a little on mx tracks. i like it but am thinking about going to 14/37 or 14/36 so i still gain some on bottom but dont lose a bunch on top.

I run a 16/39 combination with 18 inch rears. Prior to having my stroker motor, I ran stock gearing with the same 18's and this seemed to work ok. The only problem was that each gear was much shorter, causing me headaches from constantly shifting. It seems like the additional torque from the stroker motor made up for the lack of low end power. Now its got low end out the *** and has much longer legs between gears...I've been very happy with this as the quad will throttle wheelie in 5th no problem much like K Fulk.
