restricting a 400ex

i wanna make it slower with out much work
i want to do this cuz i have a few girls coming over to ride and some of them have never rode and i dont think its a bright idea to let them hop om my 406 the way it is now.

I never checked mine, but is there a threaded hole behind the thumb throttle to put a screw in as a governor?

Put a bunch of slack in the throttle cable.

We used to take the top cover plate off the throttle and tape a small sockett in there to stop the throttle from advancing all the way. will not change any thing but adding a throttle stop

actually.....its a good idea.....if someone can make a HOW TO or show some pics i would be interested for the same reason....if someone new is riding my quad i dont want them to get scared and hurt themselves.....id rather them get stuck on a hill and have to walk up to turn it around then them SMASH the throttle and freak out.

take the top cover off the thumb throttle. Look for a good location and drill a hole in the back side of the thumb throttle. You want to pick a spot that the drill would act as a throttle stop on the actuator. Tap the hole you drilled with probably around a 8-34 thread. Get a 8-34 screw and nut. thread the nu t on the screw. thread the screw into the hole until you have it set to stop the throttle where you need it. Then set the nut down against the throttle body to lock it in. When they are gone thread the screw out until the throttle has no restrictions and lock it back down.

attatch the tether to the girl and tell her to jump off if anything bad is going to happen to the quad.

but i think the slack in the cable sounds the best

yea i was kidding about the jumping off i just didnt have a better idea than the letting out slack. thats real easy and will do the trick
