What kind of gas do you use in a stock yfz450 because i read in dirtwheels that yamaha recommends using high test gasoline and not regular, would this matter, or would using regular gas mess up the engine?

yea i definately wouldn't run less than 93 octane. with roughly a 12:1 piston, it would prolly have detonation issues.

Is 12:1 the normal compression of the piston? cuzz if i get a 450 it will be completely stock for awhile

Run the highest octane gas you find at the regular gas station.I would reccommend 93 octane at the least.

I run 93 on everything high performance

whether its a modded 50 or a jetted yfz, they are both high performance and need to burn clean high octane fuel

My friend runs C12 in his 440ex, I think thats around 108 octane

I have a 13:1 piston, and i run 100 octane from Sunoco. But for stock i would just run premium and not worry about nething.

so just run premium and everything will be fine? roughly how much is premium gas for the litre?

Woah kinda weird...i forgot that canada uses the liter.... it is about 250 a gallon here ,which is a little over 2 liters. But i think in canada the price is higher....if you can afford a YFZ you can buy gas for it.

lol thatst a good point, are these quads good on gas?
and im getting an 04 yfz if i get one, do they have any problems? ive heard of batteries prematurely dying because of stators

Gas is fine.. not a big deal, Dont worry about that. As far as the stator problem. I feel that it is due to the kill switch they use. A lot of people run the Pro design kill switch. It works for some people but you have to ground it to the stator, which wares them out. I use a pingel one and i have had no problem. As far a problems. Swing Arms....make sure the bolts stay tight. the dealer ship worked on mine and some new guy forgot to tighten it up and the adjustor broke. They are a great job and real realible if taken care of.

ill watch out for that, how do you get to the air box and tighten the chains on these machines?

The air box is real easy to get to you just pull the tab on the seat and take it off and it is right under there. Real accessable. And for the chain. There are two bolts i think 17mm. I think. right next to the rear break. You just loosen them up, and then tighten up the adjusters. It is real easy.

I run AVGAS in my 400ex and when I get my new YFZ probably this weekend, I will be running AVGAS in it also. I just go to the local airport and get the 100LL (100 octane low lead) and then mix a little marvel mystery oil in it. The oil helps lubricate the top end on the engine, just mix it per the directions on the bottle. AVGAS seems to work just as good as the race gas but is half the price. I pay $2.75 a gallon here in Las Vegas and premium is around $2.15 and race gas was over $5.00 a gallon. I can actually feel the power difference between the premium and the AVGAS too. plus the higher octane will help the motor run cooler and not ping

Hope this helps

You betcha, I rn the JET4POWER system on my YFZ and being in touch with their tech guys about using c12 and all that other high dollar stuff is just not necessary( not that 93 isn't already highway robbery) They indicated that the configuration of the Cylinder Head doens not promote the need of anything higher than 93 octane.

I'd research out the choice of running the AVGAS until you know all the pro's and con's ther is a gravity issue i believe when using it in a non avaiation application. I looked it up once when trying to decide on running it or not and my research said no. cant remember all the reason though
