Do you think it would be possible to put a crf250 motor in my 300ex, and if so how much would the motor cost?
Thanks

it could be done but you would lose A LOT of low end torque in exchange for peak hp.go with the cr 250 2smoke if you want some serious hp upgrade,,:D

If I had the money I would do the swap. The 250 engine has wayyyy more poteinal than a 300ex. JMO

I've thought about this alot actually...its just the fact that crf250 motors are not cheap...I was close to building a yz250f powered 300ex...Who knows...I might do it someday just to see what its like...I was going to use a 400ex frame..

those 250f motors would be a dog in a quad frame.maybe go good if your running dirt track once you got them going but trying to get a 350lb quad out of the hole with a "125 class motor"wouldnt be the hot setup

Why is that? There making around 30-35 hp correct? Thats almost as a stock trx450r or yfz450. The weak point I see is the tranny and clutch, cause its only set up for a say 150lbs bike, where as a quad is at or over 350lbs. You could solve that with heavy duty clutch basket, plates, fibers, and flywheel weights. If I had the money to do it, I wouldnt think twice about it!JMO

I've seen kx/cr 80 powered 400ex's that would smoke most 400's..lol

Also, I have another question. A guy down the street from me has a 440 ex with black plastics, graphics, powdercoat frame, nerfs, bumber, tag bars, and other stuff i dont know about. He has to get rid of it , and he says hell sell it to me for like $3300.
Ive ridden z400s and 400exs and my YZ125, but ive never ridden a 440, which he claims goes 100mph at the local drag strip. Is this a load of bull or is it possible, and will i kill myself?

I doubt it does 100 unless he has it geared for drag...Anythings possible with some gearing...go look it over..test ride it...440s are beasts..try and talk him down on the price if you like it...

And you could get a cr250 motor from anywhere between 200-1000 or more...all depends on year and whatnot...
