I have the following mods: full hrc kit, 13.1 je piston, ported head, uni filter (no lid), sparks pipe, 40mm fcr carb, and a lightened flywheel. Would I benifit more from getting the Crf ignition or getting a new web billet cam (don't the specs or part#) just know that it has high lift and long duration and requires new valve springs. Please help me out with some good advice.

The Crf ignition would be your best bet. ;) The HRC cam is one of the very best cams you can install in the TRX450R and i see you already have it.:)

I thought that if you went with a cam that had more lift and duration you would get more horsepower, because the longer you hold the valves open means more power right? Just wondering Tring to get the most for my money. btw the web cam I am considering is a new billet cam it is the biggest cam that will fit in the R head some machining is required to make it fit. There is one around me that has the exact cam I haven't ridden it or seen it run, but have heard that it rips.

What is to gain from the crf ignition? Does it rev higher. Does it simply plug in or does it have to have some modification done to it? I haven't heard of anyone doing this yet. Thanks,

i would get a vortex ignition since you already have a lighter flywheel then you would have 10 maps to choose between instead of one with the crf ignition

CRF ignition. The flywheel is 2lbs lighter. Yeah, you'll definitely rev a lot faster than you do now.

Except what trail tech says about keeping the lights and fan is kinda a oxymoron cause thats why most do the crf ignition, to rev faster and get rid of all the electrical. But good post none the less.

R3Concepts426ex,

Let me clear this up.

First off, you can get rid of 95% of the electrical and still keep the fan. Afte the mod is done, you will have more than 5 lbs of "excess" parts off the bike. Even with the fan and lights, you get all the benifit of this mod.

Ridden hard without good airflow, the TRX450 will overheat. This problem gets worse with high compression pistons.

If you ride fast and have good air flow (not blocked by mud), then you can run without the fan. So for MX riders who keep the speed up and do not run with mud packed radiators, you can run without the fan.

While testing at the dunes, TRX450's without the fans did fine until we dropped into the trees. In the trees, the bike is wide open and barely moving. For those of you at the dunes, hammering the big hills - running without the fan is not a good idea. In our testing, both the stock and CRF ignitions blew their coolant after five minutes in the tree shots without the fan.

This I knew, but thanks for clearing it up. Any 4 stroke will boil sitting still or not moving at a good pace. 90% of the people that do this mod are infact MX racers, which 100% of that I know of at least dont run the lights, and about 75% dont run the fan. Which leads to more weight loss. But I understand the fact that you guys need to sell lights so Ill just stay outta this one.

R3Concepts426ex,

You are corrrect, this mod is popular with the MX crowd.

Because a good MX motor makes a great dune motor, the dune crowd will soon follow. I just want to be careful that nobody gets the idea that "Trail Tech told them" that no fan was required. This would be a bad topic over a melted motor.
