im looking to buy a new quad,
i found a 400ex for 2500 and a raptor for 3000, I know the raptor has it beat in power, but which is more reliable and the best deal for the money, they are both pretty close to stock.

by far the honda is more reliable and raptor does have it beat in power but thats about it,if u modd that 400 good, the raptor wont be nothing no more,if i was you i would go with the 400ex,dont waste time with that 400lb craptor

well i owned a raptor before i got the 400ex so what does that tell you?

i blew the tranny in my rappy and my one way gear was going out. the 400ex always starts and fits my size alot better than the raptor. and the most noticeable feel coming off of a raptor is the suspension. OMG the 400ex suspension is SO much better.

btw: i'm 5'8'' 145lbs

I can already tell you the answer your gonna get... its a honda forum 400ex will get the vote. Ask on a yamaha forum like bluetraxx, and the raptor will get the votes. IMO you cant go wrong with either one. Test drive them both and see which one works for YOU... just a thought good luck:D

well sorry all you honda guys, but I think I am gonna go with the raptor. I am 6 foot and 160 pounds so I think the raptor will fit me better. Also I did post at bluetraxx and all of them said the raptor was better, so yea I guess it evens out. Maybe I should post this at a kawasaki forum or something for an unbiased oppinion. anyways, thanks for all your advice.

if your going for trails i would reccomend the Raptor with Reverse. I have rode raptors and while they have nice torque i hate the suspension and overall feel of the bike. On my 400ex im riding with the bike. ON the raptor i was riding on top of it.

Going from a blaster to a raptor, of course your not going to be able to use the power all of the way and the raptors suspension wont seem that bad tho.....lol

I have a Raptor and I love it. I alos now own a Predator and like it too.The 400 is a very nice quad but you have to mod it up heavily to hang with the new gen of quads out there.

Some things to be carefull of.
1. As stated above they have a 1-way bearing in it that can go go out. Kinda hard to start without it.
2. Invest in a wider aftermarket axle to avoid the "tippy feeling" everyone complains about.
3. Get a good pipe and air filter on it. The raptor comes way to restricted and loves to breathe.

I have had no problems with mine whatsoever but I am meticulous on the maintenance part. If you are that way, any quad will be reliable.

400ex is more relieble plus like they said with alittle of money and some mods u will be right next to a raptor:devil:

the raptor I am looking to buy has a LA one way bearing kit to fix the starter problem and also a ct pipe and k n airfilter. I think i'll be pretty happy with it. also I am pretty pretty meticulous when it comes to maintenance so it should be pretty reliable.

yea u should be pretty happy with your rapotr, they are very nice quads to buy and ride. They are reliable, and easy to fix, because of dealers in alot of places, even probably in your area.

Dude, Get the Raptor. Youll get bored with how slow the 400's are. Iv raced a few worked 400's and I couold do 4th gear wheelies by every one of them when they were tacked out. Iv been riding with a Raptor and it wasn't that slow.

i'd go w/ the 400...more reliable by a looong shot...also. raptors are harder to work on personally. raptors are a lot more heavy to, i dont like that either...god that thing rolls you are way more screwed than if you go w/ something lighter...like a 400 maybe?
