I have a stock 03 400ex, and I want to know what size engine kit to go with? (416,426,440) I ride woods more than anything. However I need MORE POWER. I want more bottom end and mid than top end. anybody got any idea?

Also what about cam's ?

for the absolute best imo i would send my engine out to a reputable builder and have him install a 440. have him do oversized head studs, hardened rockers, stiffer springs, the works. but that's a lot of bucks

if your going to do the majority of it by yourself i would do the 416 or the 426. but probably the 416 because i've heard that the horsepower difference is very minimal and of course the closer you keep to stock bore the more reliable you will be.

a 416 bore, 11:1 piston, hotcam stage 1 camshaft, good exhaust, good intake, and a good set of tires and it will take you a long while to actually need more power out in the woods.

my .02 anyway

call C&D about a 416 kit with a hotcams stage 2, but if you have the money go with a GTthunder 452 stroker motor.:D

does the motor need work or do you want more power? If you want more power get a filter, cam, pipe and do an air box mod like the ehs you will gain a lot over stock and need all this for a bigger bore anyway

no it doesnt need work just power. I am doing pipe, jetting, filter
I have been told it will wake it up but more on the top end and not so much on the bottom end.

It will give you more power all over the powerbrand....... Put a stage one cam in it also for more low-mid grunt.

ya, a hot cams 1 and the hmf slip-on should give you lots of bottom end power

Personally I think its a good idea to do a piston with a cam. I wouldn't even bother with a cam if your not doing a high compression piston at all, but thats just me.

I am going to do all this eventually, I just wandered about the
size I wanted to go with. :ermm:

stock bore -free
high comp piston- 100
hotcam-100
and 14 tooth front sprocket -15

thats the basics of my 400 except i got regind web cam which really give more top end than anything and it does great and would have much less money in it and almost zero down time if you do it yourself. and honestly you might think the sprocket is minor but its so much nicer in the woods and adds nice power
