The 250R got my vote, gotta stay true. You dont see a 250R everyday.

The blue YZF450 and the Black YFZ also looked sick but I think anyone can go splap aftermarket parts on a brand new quad if they have the money. IMO I think he chose the best quad to rebuild, oldschool:macho

the black 400ex got my vote. That thing has alot of custom stuff that is home made. He didn't just go out and buy 25000$ worth of parts and bolt then on, anyone can do that. This is a build off, not just buying parts and bolting stuff on. You build stuff.

I am having a hard time voting. There isn't one that really stands out to me by any means. nothing to the quality that popo's quad was last year.

03-14-2005, 12:41 PM
rich I think you are breaking some rules bro. and yes I have looked at all of them.

In my opinion the winner needs to be a combinations of good looks with top notch products. stock a-arms and swing-arm don't really impress me. Don't like the Bumper. and there is WAY too much of the same color PC. Break it up a bit. go with something lighter here and there.

yeah, your swinger and arms are stock, but out of the choices i had narrowed down, yours seemed to have the most motor work and attention to detail. I love the graphics and i'm a die hard HMF fan. Your quad looks awesome...now it's time for an ARS-FX front end and swinger and its done!

looks like a yfz motor to me. the frame was probably built for the yz conversion and he threw the yfz motor in there. only reason i can really tell is in the first pic you can see the electric starter...

why would the quad motor or bike motor make a difference?...still couldnt race production either way

putting a bike motor in there is common. lots of people do it. the quad motor in there is something different. Plus in my opinion the quad motor is made for a quad, beefed up transmition and such. I just thing it would make for a better quad. But he says the dispacement is 450 on it. if it's a bike motor that means the motor is stock bore stroke. if it's the quad motor it means they have got into the internals of the motor to do work. more work, more money, that will sway my vote a bit.
sorry guess I am looking at more than just the plastics and stickers.

yea no i see what you're sayin. the 450 got me caught up to. but if he actually did something internal (which i'm doubting since it says stock) hes simply using the 450 label and not saying its 450cc

03-17-2005, 12:28 PM
yeah it says all the enternals are factory but the displacement is 450 so I guess it's the bike. anyway the lack of profesionalism in his desriptions and the wondering what it really is has lost my interest.

True, so much for that secret plan.

Looks like this years winner is gonna win based on all his friends votes rather than the best built quad.

Well now that the voting is over...... I didn't vote for the "purtiest" quad, or the one with the most "shiny" addon parts... I thought #8 with the offset a arms was the most creative entry. Definitely stood out from the crowd. Plus half of them didn't even come up with a project name.....

yeh muff don't get me wrong you have a really good looking quad and I would love to have sumthing like that.

But except spending a sh*it load of money, and buying all your parts, did you actualy build anything on that quad???

I know all your store bought parts might not have fit perfecly any maybe you had to mod them a little to get then to fit just right but that is NOT building anything. anyone can bolt up stuff.

I know I had to build a degree of things to make things fit on an aftermarket aluminum frame, but from what I hear, I only got a handful of votes, oh well, I agree, this is simply a popularity contest....

how about doing all the motorwork myself? gutting the electrical system? making spacers for the axle to get the sprockets properly lined up? custom spacers for the frame guards, removing the front fender mounts on the frame, cutting the fenders

did you do your OWN motorwork? did my friends post here boasting about my quad and how others should vote for it? hmm... see you at the track :macho

zhvonte yes you spent money on your quad, i think its just lacking a bit of color that woulda gotten you more votes

as for the *****load of money part, maybe if you have worked as hard as i have, you could have had a quad like mine as an 18yr old college student. every penny i've made has gone into this thing, and i've spent under $14 k on it, including the cost of the quad

anyways enough postin in here for me, i think the clear number of votes show the results!!

There is nothing to support your arguments on why you won. We all work hard to get where we are at, myself included. If you are interested in favoring yourself because you think you are the only one who work hard to get where you are at, think again. This is the motion you are setting forth, impression wise.

I congrated all the winners, however I still believe its a popularity contest. That is all I said, and I am standing by it.....

since when was i listing why i won??..read the posts and then reply. i was simply defending my side that i have put effort into the build. you know everything just doesnt slap on, i dont have to tell you that.
ease up on the posts, and stop making false generalizations about what i'm sayin here. do you seriously think that i despise everyone for not putting the same that i put into my quad?? no, not at all, the whole competition was filled with sick quads, the only comment i made to you was why i thought your quad didnt get as many votes as you hoped

Hey Guys, All the quad entered looked great, and I don't think any of the top finishers should have to defend their votes because everything was closely monitored on our end to insure no ballot stuffing.

Thanks again for everyone that submitted entries and I hope everyone enjoyed building their machines, but please don't ruin a good thing.

to be honest when i entered, i thought i was going to be in the top 3 for sure being that i built a full aftermarket chassis hybrid from the ground up. but after seeing the other quads entered i quicly relalized that i wasnt. there were some outstanding quads in the contest.as for some people complaining that Muff didnt build a quad, that is rediculous. this wasnt a fabricating build off. unfortunatly if you have more funds to use to build your quad most likely its going to be flashier and have higher end parts on it. its not his fault and for people who cant afford to spend as much money its unfortunate but you can fault the guy for working hard and and spendin some cash building the nicest quad that entered the contest. it wasnt a who spent the most money contest, it wasnt a who made the most with what they had contest.....it was a builder of the year contest and the members of this site have spoken i think the nicest quads won
congrats to the winners.

I am not compaining because the wrong one win. muff did have a really good looking quad. and it probably runs really good.
The thing I am complaining about is that some people ( not just me ) put alot more work in there quads then he did. He just bolted on store bought parts that anyone can get if they have the money. Most people just don't have a bunch of money to put in there quads.

The guy that built the crf quad had alot more time and effort in his quad then muff. alot of stuff on my quad, you can NOT buy them in stores cause I made them my self.

I am just mad because people voted for the guy with the most money and not the ones that have alot of effort in there quad.

^^^^ i could not agree more. Yes, I'm bumbed that no-one voted me the winner:rolleyes: , but i doubt anyone spent 6 months designing and building a custom stroker engine too. I think 440ex's comment is not meant to be a crybaby cause he didn't win- it just seems that the real meaning of the contest was a bit  for a few.

Builder of the year should equal custom one of a kind.
Do you ever see those custom chopper builders on tv enter build-off competitions with bolt-on items? no they are completely custom.

Well, one thing learned,...at least next year won't be spent waisting time on a "Bolt-on Modifier Popularity Contest".

I think muff deserves the win fair and square, whether he paid someone to build it or not (not saying he did), it is his quad and he should be proud of his accomplishment of owning the quad.

I still want to see some write ups from all these fine looking quads....I will be sure to post mine soon.

Congrats MUFF!!

To be honest with everyone I built my Quad for this up coming year of racing and decided since it was going to look good I would enter it in the contest. I thought I would have done better but I dont care.

Its meant to be raced and its first showing I took 2nd in the A-class in IL. with no rear brakes. So its a good combination for me.

Congrats to all again this is like the fast kid in a racing series, You always have someone complaining about him but thats just to bad!!!

Either try harder next time, give it up, or let it be!

I see the piont it really is who has the most money, maybe their should be a few classes, like unlimited for people who have alot of extra cash, and another where thier is a limit of 5000 in bolt ons.

Either way thiers not really anyway for alot of people to custom make thier ouw a-arms, swingarms, shocks, ect. It is easier to buy them and bolt them on. Thats what i do, and if anyone told me I put no effort into my quad after taking it completely down to the frame to get it pced and "bolting-on" parts singlehandedly, you would be punched square in the face. :macho
