A cam with a stock piston? It really give some HP?

Everybody here told me "put a High Compression piston if you want more power"....

the stock motor is limited to 40hp max because of the cam, if you get rid of it, then your hp numbers will go up :macho

You wont be dissapointed with a hotcams stage2 and a full exhaust of some kind with the stock piston.

Hotcams Stage 1 is the one you want!

If it's a 99 on the stock piston still most likely it wouldn't hurt to just go ahead and get a 416 high compression piston along with a cam. I would get the stage 2 if you get a hotcam.

i installed my hotcam stg 2 thursday and went to the dunes this weekend, it was a noticable difference. i had really good gains in 2nd and 4th gears. i am putting on a lrd full system this week and hope to see some more output from my stock piston.

I think I will get the stage 1. I don't have a full exhaust just a WB slip-on. Do you have to rejet when you install?

Yes. You will need to re-jet when you put it in. You will be changing the duration of the valves, which means more air-fuel. If you don't rejet, you will run lean.

I have the stage 1 in my bike and had it dyno'ed this weekend. I saw 30.12 horsepower with 26lbs of torque, which is a considerable difference over stock. Thats with a full exhaust system.

You probably won't see that big of a gain with just a slip on, but you will see some. Your best bet would be to go with a full exhaust as well, since you will be putting more air into the engine, you need to be able to get it back out. The stock head pipe can be a problem in that area.

In reality, the HotCam should be put in AFTER you upgrade the air filter and the exhaust to reap the full reward of the cam. The stage one will give you better mid-high Horsepower, the Stage two will get you better bottom end with only mild increases on the mid and top.

Why Hotcam inc. say : "stage 2 is for desert or open area?"???

thanks

It doesn't. It says:

"Recommended for motocross or desert racing. Works well with larger than stock bore. Does not use decompression mechanism. Uses stock valve springs and rockers. "

Lots of twisties and shifting. You spend lots of time in the lower gears. Desert racing because of lots of climbing where lower RPM is used.

You are wrong. The Stage 1 is low end while stage 2 is mid to top. ANd the reason it says desert racing is because you are almost always rapped out while racing across the desert.

I am getting my info directly from HotCams.

Stage 1

Excellent midrange and top end power increase. Not recommended for big bore applications over 426cc. Does not use decompression mechanism. Uses stock valve springs and rockers.

Stage 2

Recommended for motocross or desert racing. Works well with larger than stock bore. Does not use decompression mechanism. Uses stock valve springs and rockers

Here's the link to the HotCam for the 400EX

HotCams Inc (http://www.hotcamsinc.com/)

If I am wrong, so is the manufacturer, and thats unlikely.

Any cam that is reccomended for MX or desert is a top end cam. It does say excellent gains on mid top for stage 1 but the stage 2 is even more of a top end cam. Look at the specs. The duration is longer which makes it a higher reving cam.

If you want a real good bottom-mid cam, get the TC XC Cam. I have one, and the bottom end pull is incredible.
