Not sure why but my three week old 2005 400EX runs really rough in reverse. No probs at all in forward gears, goes really good. But in sand etc where I need a bit more power when reversing it runs bad. Sputters and coughs. It's fine going slow in reverse out of the garage etc..Any ideas?

Thanks!

Its a rev limiter to keep you from over revving in reverse, because its harder to control in reverse.

Thanks.:D I feel stupid now! :D But it would sure be handy not to have it in really soft sand where I need the revs.

There should be some way to override the reverse limiter, raptor owners have been doing that for a while.

on a polaris there is a bright yellow Switch on the bars all you do is hit that and you can do 30 in reverse. Its very unnstable tho lol

there are two wires you must unplug to override the rev limiter in reverse. i did it on my old 300EX but not sure which two wires they are.

on a 300ex its the 2 wires that are on the clutch side.. i grounded both those wires, so i have unlimited rev on my reverse :p its not as fun as it may sound :scary: almost flipped many a time backin out the garage

i also have a 05 and the big gun rev box took care of that problem

Same here but on my 300 the rev is still at the stock limiter. Its also fun as hell to do reverse burnouts!

So a pre-05 CDI should take care of the reverse limiter?
