:)

The pilot jet is the slow circuit in your carb that allows gas to flow when starting up the quad and letting it idle. The 42 is larger than stock by 2 sizes. stock size is a 38, next one up is 40 then the 42. Lots of 400ex owners have done this and it truly works, including myself. I think I actually need to go bigger to be honest... It would be nice to have knowldege of the carb before doing this.

Get a better battery, a dyna bat or get one from a CBR. Makes a big difference too.

Check your plugs first. How long have they been in the bike?

Pump the throttle a few times real fast before trying to start it, There is an accelerator pump in your carb that shoots an extra pump of gas into the intake when you snap the throttle real fast. Also, if your quad has sat for a while, hold the throttle wide open and turn the engine over for a few seconds, then pump the throttle a few times and try starting again. should get it started, you may have to nurse it a little but it should start when it is cold.

A better battery will make it start easier?
