Yes, does sound lean. Does it turn red on Idle? Or while your riding? Do you have any mods done?

Go a size or two up on the Pilot. Try a 40 or a 42. Need to richen it up.

I noticed mine did the same thing. I can't see it during the day, but I called the local shop and one of the guys there said to adjust the carb screw. I haven't had any problems with it nor did I take his advice, but maybe something will go wrong eventually. For now I've been riding without noticeable problems.

There must have been 50 posts about the same problem in the last 4 months. There is nothing wrong with your bike. My 04 400ex did that brand new off the showroom floor. If it really bothers you though, Install a slip on silencer ( HMF, White Bros, ETC) and that will allow the exhaust to flow freely and reduce the heat build up in the head pipe.

Well that might solve the problem of seeing it turn red, but you are making the motor run even leaner! NOT GOOD. You can try adjusting your mixture screw, and/or up the pilot jet size. I would do the mixture screw first.
