How the heck does reverse work on a 95 Honda 300ex? The guy I bought it from didn't know either! He never used it!

push the button on the clutch and pull and clutch and lift the lever on the left side in neutral

Let me make it clear.

1.Make sure quad is in neutral.
2. Push in red button on clutch lever.
3.While button is in pull the lever up next to your left leg.
4. Release the clutch slowly and give it gas.
5. To put it back in neutral, Just push lever down.

the 300 has like the worst reverse setup out there but all it'll take is practice and u'll have it in no time:D

Worst reverse procedure ever.

skatrdude20 has the right procedure, except for one small detail.

1. Quad in neutral. Let clutch out.

2. Push red button, pull clutch IN. (the red button engages a smaller reverse clutch lever underneath the normal clutch lever).

3. While clutch (and red button) are pulled in, pull up on red lever down by your left leg. I usually pull it up with my left foot.

4. When reverse lever is pulled up, quad is in reverse. Let clutch out slowly as you would in 1st gear.

To disengage, pull clutch in again (without the red button this time) and push lever down. You are now in neutral again.

Geez, now I know why he never used it! And you guys were laughing about that. This process is crazy.

It's really not THAT bad. The basic principle is fairly simple. Any reverse procedure on any quad, you'll need to pull the clutch in, and flip some reverse lever or switch.

The things that make the 300EX reverse procedure so complicates is that the quad must be in neutral, which is inconvenient. I think other quads can engage reverse in any gear. The secondary reverse clutch lever (that's what the red button is for) is also inconvenient, as it requires you to let out the clutch, push the button, and then pull the clutch in again. Also, the location of the reverse lever down on the left side is really inconvenient.

I have seen a conversion to make it (the lever)a foot operated shifter. The reverse isn't that bad on the 300,once you get used to it it's second nature.

you can get rid of the red button on the clutch by removing the release on the clutch cover or by securing it back with chain or coat hanger. then you just shift to neutral and pull the reverse lever.

I bought a foot shifter off of eBay to replace the stock reverse shifter. I also used a 2 stroke exhaust spring to take place of the reverse cable. Now I no longer have to use the red button on the clutch. All I do now is put it in neutral pull in the clutch and push down on the reverse shifter and I'm in reverse. Then just pull up on the lever and you're back in neutral.

Here's a pic

Thanks. I like it because it doesn't look half *** like others I've seen and it works perfectly.
