whats the diference

can anyone tell me if there is a diference in speed and gearing regarding to the 2004ex and the new 2005ex with reverse. thanks.

i think it has new internal gear ratios and they dropped a tooth on the front sproket. not positive but i am pretty sure.

Does this give it more top speed or less compared to the old 400ex and if so does this mean that the new ex is a bit weaker in bottem end power or not'.

im not sure but i think they spaced out the gear ratios on the '05, but gave it a 14t front sprocket to balance it back out to close to normal.

The 05 400ex does have new gear ratios I have heard its a little faster but not much.. Correct me if im wrong anyone

If they dropped a tooth in the front, that lowered the gear ratio, I think dirt wheels said they did cahngfe internal gears, but I remember them saying the changed the sprockets to a 15/38, but that is the same as every other year, I guess it was a misprint.

99-04 had 15/38 gearing

05 has 14/39 gearing

with that being said, i assume the internals had to be changed. i have been told the 05's seem to be a tad quicker but i have no proof to back that up.
