i have a 400ex, and i ride mx and trails. i would really like to do a full mx setup with mx tires, wide a-arms, shaved fenders and all the other mx goodies, but i dont want it to be so bad on trails that i cant even ride them. just wonderin if anybody with mx quads rides trails much and if there really bad in trails.

Never....unless the trails are dry and not rocky and all rutted out. Like PA's Allegheny trails. Perfect time to get some real seat time and they even have jumps and down hill whoops sections

i run trails with mine... i have 2 sets ups...

for MX i turn my rear axle out to +4... a-arms are +1 in the front so its not 2 wide for the woods and wide enouf for a mx track... in the woods i also run the axle at +1.5... i've never had a problem being 2 wide in the woods and i've never been to narrow for a mx track...

i run cut fenders but just ordered new full fenders bc MUDD SUCKS!

MX tires are not rated for woods. YOu'll have 30 plugs in each tire if you do it a lot.

I'm lucky its not real rocky around here, but I still keep a set of tires around for each type of riding.

I dont have a problem with mx tires in the woods, but you should still have a xc set just for the extra ground clearence. Last time I used my mx tires in the woods my rear rotor looked like this L

Thank fully it was a wave rotor and i straitend it back up enough to ride back to my truck. But when i got back it smelled real bad and ruined my caliper in the process.

Its all good in the end, gave me a good reason to switch to 250r rear brakes. :p
