I just wanted to see what everyones jetting was and what exhaust,airbox mods they had
I have a slip-on LRD with no airbox lid and a k&N
and a 190 main jet but i think im going to a 200 because it is burning too lean.To me this is really weird b/c the stock was a 118 i think
anyone else running this high of a main jet?

my quad has an 04 CRF450 dirtbike engine with Yoshi full titanium with K&N no airbox. runnin 200 main and 155 pilot and i think it's still a little to lean. have u done any engine work?

Depends what elevation you are running at. I run a 200 Main and a 52 pilot at 31/2 turns out in 60 deg weather with a modified motor at 4600' elevation.

thats definately one thing ive heard about the 450r's, that the jetting was crazy on them. I about to install a Full system LRD pipe, stage one hotcams and K&N filter without the lid. I was wondering where you guys think i should start jetting at? 180 and work my way up?

Ill have my quad put together by the beginning of april hopefully so ill be able to enter it in the quad of the month for the april contest :)

I see on here lots of people staring out low and working up in jet size.

I have to say that is the wrong way to do it. You should start out rich and work down in jetting!
It’s better to start out little rich that start out a little lean.
Lean conditions are a LOT worse for an engine than being a little rich!
Being lean cause things like detonation, over heating, melting of stuff etc.
Being rich cause oil to wash off the cylinder walls and failed plugs. But takes a lot longer to hurt the engine!

Yes leaner is meaner! But at what cost!

'05 450R with about 20 hours on it at 25*F...
-HRC cam
-stock pipe and 2" end cap
-stock 48 pilot
-air screw about 2.5 turns out
-HRC needle middle position
-190 main

Not sure how "dialed in" I am, but with my GPS I was able to get a few more MPH than with the 182 main. With stock unstudded tires and 14/36 gearing, I was able to get 72.5 MPH on the ice. I think I should be able to get faster than that though!

I agree with you to an extent.However,I also think there is a little superstition in jetting.You are not going to melt your engine as quickly or easily as some say just by being off a couple of jet sizes.

I was having the same problem but I put the HRC needle in at the middle position and a 190 is working for me. Im guessing the stock needle is the bottle neck. I tried a bunch of sizes up to the 200 and it was still too lean. Not anymore. Either move your clip down on your stock needle a few clicks or get an aftermarket one. I at 3600ft most of the time.

YA It would be hard to MELT it. but with high compression and lean jetting it will detonate/ knock!

I can show a pix of a small block chevy piston that was knocking, it looks like some one took a shot gun and shot the top of the piston!!! the reason it happend thow was to much compresion, to much timming, to lean carb, and to low of octain for the combo!!

Im running TC full pipe, 175 main, stock filter, cut box lid, stock 48 needle, air mixture screw 3.5 turns out. This is TC recommendations although it "seems" lean compared to all other pipe systems, it runs well and shows no signs of being lean.

fmf slip on and no lid i tried a 190 main and felt it was MUSHY in the spread so i went to a 180. much crisper. it's cold out so i don't tack it but come warmer weather it should be perfict. try some dif jets and go by the seat feel and check the plug:D

I so far still have the stock exaust but cut the lid in the back and glued an outerware screen and rejeted to 178 and works great but all quads are different

i would love to post what my jetting is but the truth is i have no clue the dealership i bought mine from changed the jetting for denver (5280 feet)

then they went out of business and i didnt ask what the jets where before they went out of business

anyway i was wondering what i should run at a mile high with
White Brothers Pro Series Carbon and K&N

oh yeah im also running 100 octane fuel cause all we have here is crappy 91 octane with 10% ethanol unless you buy the 100 octane they have a some gas stations

I feel yeah. Califonia has 91 super oxygenated stuff. Wont have to worry about all that after the piston install. lol

anyway yeah the gas really sucks as soon as ppl on ebay stop screwing me over im gonna buy a 11.5 piston so i can run better gas

i live in utah and i run no box lid, k&n, full yosi system amd i run a 170 main jet. Stock was a 112 :)
