yes the tranny from a 350 will work , a 4.3 is a 350 with the rear cylinders cut off same bolt pattern for tranny go for it

well the other night this kid i know pulled up behind me and his bumper was on my rear bumper....so i threw it in reverse adn started smoking the tires....then i pulled forward a bit and then put it back into reverse then there was nothing...so i wa jsut thinking that a 350 would stand up to a bit more

There are a few types of trannys they put on 350's but I know that the 700r4 is one of them. So I think you could just be getting the same thing? Have you checked your tranny fluid?? (its an auto right)

not to steal the thread, but does the 2.2 have the same tranny as the 4.3?

no the smaller engine does not have the same tranny as the 4.3L. The 4.3L is identical to the 350 and 305 except it has 2 cylinders cut off. Almost everything will bolt up if they are from the same years. The transmissions will bolt up. If you want to keep the same gas mileage as what you were getting get another 700r4. They aren't that expensive. If you don't kare that much about gas mileage and want a little bit more stout tranny and one with a little bit more umph get a th350 or th400.

4.3, 5.0, 5.7.......all the same bell housing/tranny, use whatever you can get your hands on.......it`s a simple job to slap a tranny in a little s-10.

400 Turbo, 350 Turbe, 700r will all work......

yea, we changed a flywheel in a 2.8 s-10.... its all easy till u get to the top mounts on the tranny.... u gotta angle ur wrenches and fingers all in a 1 inch space. other than that, its preaty simple

Don't the 4.3's use the 40L60(E) tranny? I believe the 40L60 is in our '90 4.3L S-10.

the 4L60E is in the newer(94/95+) 1500+ series trucks. I don't think it ever went into the S-series of trucks. I'm not 100% so.

S-Series are the 94+ years. I swear they used the 4L60 transmissions in those years, and the 4L60E was added in the 04+. Guess I'm wrong though, thanks for correcting me.

The term S-Series refers to all s10s and other s10 models like the sonoma. www.s10forum.com has tons and tons of good info.

Yea I've been on the S10 forum, but whenever I looked up S-Series in Google it would show the 94+ years...but I guess it also includes the years before to '82 when it was introduced. I was just thinking of the new body style, which was the SLS version in '94.

Shouldn't the 4L60E transmission be used in the newer years though? If you look up on eBay there's usually transmissions that come from S-10 and other trucks that use the same tranny.

4L60E transmission IS controled by a computer
the 700r4 is controled by a TV cable hooked to the carb. some 700r4 are some what computer controled but any good trany guy can make so no computer is needed.

I ran a modified 700r4 in my 300PH small block S10 and it did fine. ececpt i would blow the frount seal out once a year and you could not hold it wide open in 4th. I did have a corvett sevo and a B&M non kick down modual in it.

I put in a 450HP small block and went with a TH350!

the 4.3 and the 305 is the same / same bore and stroke.
u can use 305 pistons and rods in a 4.3. it is a 305 with 2 cylinders missing!!! MY friend has a 4.3 blazer that is crazy fast for a 6 banger. he put in 12.5:1 305 pistons and rods and injectors out of a full size 350 truck and alot of other stuff like computer work .......
