Nice bike!! did you do the conversion your self?

Its a buddy of mines quad. I helped him with a few things to speed the process up. Jb racing did the frame, and hmf built the pipe.

Putting it all together was easy. Had to hack up some new carbon fiber scoops and make brackets for them. And trim some plastic for the kick starter and radiator were the hardest parts for us. :macho

How much fabrication do you have to do to convert to a yz426

Its not real bad at all..Some custom mounts and a few other things..I can help anyone out who needs or wants to do one..I am in the process of writing up a full artical to send to Harlen so he can post it on this site..My HD crashed and I just got a new one so I have to start all over with it again..It will have pics of all the parts and mounts needed as well as pics of step by step installation as this process comes along.

I would love to have all the info needed to do the conversion!

Do you use a stock frome with that?

yes stock 400ex frame

what needs to be done to it to make it work and how much would this run?

YZ400EX

Well a full set of motor mounts, radiator mounts, spacer for the rear and the sleeve for the swingarm bolt run me $216 shipped..I got a sweet deal on an entire YZ400F bike, but usually you could pick up any of those engines for around $800-$1200. The radiator run me $45 shipped (stock 250R for now). In my case I decided to puchase another 400ex frame and do the conversion in it instead of doing it in my existing frame, which ran me $300. If you already have a 400ex though of coarse you wont need another frame. I chose this route because I sold my frame, subframe, motor, exhuast and electronics for enough to fund this entire conversion so it wont really cost me anything. You will also need a custom oil tank ( a stock 400ex oil tank can be used, but not in its stock location from what I can tell because of the radiator). The 400ex rear part of the exhuast can be used and a header from the YZ bike or YFZ quad can be used, but a custom middle piece will need to be fabbed up to connect the 2 pipes together. I am using the HMF from my 400ex and an aftermarket YZ header and after everything is all bolted uo I will have the custom mid-pipe made for it. You will also need a kickstart extension so that when you kick start the bike the kickstarter will clear the frame. This can be purchased for $199 from eastcoast ATV or you can make one for about $40. So the conversion is kinda costly, but think that if you already have a 400ex you can sell your motor, wiring harness, and header pipe to offest alot of the cost..at least maybe enough to almost buy the motor to start you out..Hope this helps so far..Like I said once I am done gettimg everything fabbed upin this frame I am going to start taking pics and finishing up m write up on how this conversion can be done..It will include specs of certain things and pics of the mounts themselves..It will give anyone who wants to do this a very good idea on how to do it..The only thing I dont have so far is the oil tank and the mid-pipe for the exhaust, but will give info on those too once I get to that point.

Which would be faster: hybrid yzf 426 or a 400ex w/ a 500cc big bore kit?

That I dont know..I have never rode a YZ426 or a 500EX..From what I have heard these YZ motors are Bad @$$ and stock can beat a nicely built 400ex motor easily..Plus with the YZ motor you are liquid cooled so it will perform better..

Yeah, but I am just curious what would win between a 500ex and the hybrid.

^^^^ i love the radiator. Only radiator I run in my vehicles. C&R is the mutha freakin shiet. Also I have seen on a few hybrid and some regular quads the shorter exhaust canister. May I ask why have it so short? For mx purposes or what?

Here is my opinion on the two. The 500ex won't be as reliable because of the size and the heat that it will produce will affect it as well. The yz motor will do a ton better because liquid cooled and it is already a high HP motor. Just my thought though

I wish I had the time and money to do this conversion.
