View Full Version : 2nd oil cooler make a difference

my 400ex runs a little hot and now that im going with a high comp piston kit its going to run hotter i saw that people are running 2 oil coolers will it make much difference? how hard is it to do and does anyone make a larger one that bolts up in place of the stock one? thanks

i havent done it but a friend of mine did something similar. he has a 400ex and rigged up an old automotive transmission cooler that he found in a junk yard. the surface area of that thing is 2-3X that of the stock oil cooler. and yes it made a big difference.

The FST cooler does a really good job at extra cooling.

did he remove the stock cooler and use the stock lines?

The 2nd oil cooler does make a difference. I have an oversized oil cooler and the 2nd oil cooler. Got it from FDO Racing. I dont know if they are still selling them or not. You can call Mike at (740)967-1078 for info

Yep, the right side of the head cover and the clutch cover right where the oil pumps up the side of the cylinder.

im not sure about the lines but he did remove the stock cooler

I had it done during a valvetrain/cam swap.
