TDC on compression?

How do I know when I on the compression stroke? The service manual says to line up the marks, it looks like there's a few different marks on that gear. How do I know when I'm at TDC on the compression stroke?

wouldnt pushing the kick starter down untill it gets hard mean your on the compression stroke?

if your exhaust uni-fork rocker arm wiggles a bit, and your cam lobes are facing towards the intake side of the cam tower, and you cam sprocket marks align and your flywheel mark is aligned with the T you are on compression.
