i have a banshee and my good friend has a 400ex. The only motor work done to my bike is its bored .40 over and i have a jet kit and FMF pipes. He has about the same his is .20 over and has a pipe, filter, and jet kit. and needless to say i just walk all over him. he can keep up till about 3rd gear then i just blow him away

I own a banshee and have ridden a 400ex more than I have my own shee.

A piped shee will pull a stock 400ex by about 4-5 quadlegnths and pull away more and more and the race progresses. If you can get the banshee to hook up, it would be a slaughter fest for the poor ole 400. I can say, though, is the 400 is much more predictable and confidence inspiring.

read what you typed. it should. now put a piped 400ex and a piped banshee then see what happens. the first post said they both had pipes. i owned a banshee too, and my 400ex handles way better than the banshee did. much more confidence and predictable.

Pipes add more power to a banshee than to a 400ex. And since the banshee had more power to start with, the 400ex has almost no chance. I have outrun some piped banshees with my 400, but I have more than just a pipe and air filter.

347cc 2 stroke vs 397cc 4 stroke only 50cc difference and another cylinder. wonder why the pro class in bikes is 250cc 2 stroke vs 450 4 stroke? i dont care who is faster in a straight line, that is alot rider to go with that.

I agee with you. I should have said that in a drag race a 400ex with just a pipe and air filter will not beat a piped banshee. Unless the banshee rider can't shift properly. On a track, or through the woods the 400ex has an advantage.

If you actually owned a Banshee, you would realize once piping it the 400ex has no chance in hell. whether the 400ex has a pipe or not. 2-strokes respond better to pipes than 4-strokes. FACT.

Their called cheater bikes, they need double to CC just to put out the same power. :p

^^^^^ that is why they need double the cc's, they dont respond as good as 2 stroke's do. said it yourself. so a raptor would be a good race for a banshee? double the cc's, right?

Well from what I've seen, the Raptor and Banshee are pretty close in a drag. The 400ex doesn't really stand a chance against a banshee unless serious work was done to the engine.

But you can't look at the cc's and judge which one has more power, it depends on how the engine was built. A good example is to look at the 450's.

i actually owned 2 banshee's, an 87 and a 94, and compared to my 400ex, it they both handled like a tank. and drag racing them is almost all the rider unless you know both riders are equal, which that is hard to say most of the time, then it would be the machine's fault you lost.

a 400ex is definatly more practical, and you can hop them up to be almost as fast as a hopped up banshee. banshee parts are alot more expensive beucase you need 2 of everything motor wise pretty much. i would rather have a banshee for the dunes but a 400ex on everything else. honda over yamaha any day.

Depending what you want to do with it. If you want a quad for your girlfriend or wife a 400ex would be a good choice.

As for the Banshee v.s. Raptor I have seen many a times Raptors losing against Banshees too, stock for stock, or pipe. Banshees go past 400ex's like their not moving, the only way a 400ex is gunna beat a banshee if the rider has no clue what he is doing.

Your right about banshees being tanks though.

Well you are talking about the two baddest quad bikes ever built. The banshee is straight haul *** and the styling is one of a kind. It is the only yamaha i would ride screw the yz and that slow *** raptor. The 400ex is the most dependable sport quad and it runs very well but it needs another gear or different gearing in all but you other guys are right about the 400ex in the woods. But you bring that banshee to mississippi and see if my 400ex don't walk you down.lol

girlfriend or wife? 400ex's are still being raced, and not by my wife or girlfriend. by me. i know a banshee will beat a 400ex in a drag race. i meant on a motocross track a banshee would have trouble. :D
