I bought GT4 a couple days ago and it worked fine till last night I kept getting this disc read error. I put in another game and it would go right into it though? So I went and exchanged the game for another one thinking it was messed up but this one does the same thing. Any sugjestions?

I had the same problem but it was with every game. I just followed this pretty easy to read guide and everything has been fine since then.

It says you need compressed air but if you dont have it its not really necessary.

The reason its not reading GT4 is because the newer games are harder for the ps2 to read than the older games

yeah most of the time when you get this the lens just needs to be cleaned. just invest in one of those dc cleaners that you just pop in. it will make life easier plus you can do it in anything that reads disks.

If your PS2 doesnt read anything, you need to do one of two things.

A) Clean the laser reader because the hardware in the old PS2's goes bad and the laser will get dirty and not read any games or dvds.

B) Go buy the New smaller PS2. Mine wouldn't read any games, I took it apart to clean it, then when I put it all back together, it wouldnt even turn on. So we went to EB Games and they had a special where you could trade your ps2 in (whether it works or not) for 50 bucks and then if you trade 5 old games in you'll get 50 bucks and you could use the money to put the new ps2 on reserve (It hadnt come out yet when we did this.) I don't know if they still have this deal, but you could still probably trade your PS2 in and they'd still give you some cash for the new one. I don't know how much they would give you though.

mine does that everyonce in a while. i just have a can of air, when it does it i just open the disk tray and shoot some air through and its works again. I used to take it apart everytime but that got old

not that i hate PS2 but id get and XBOX and wait until it comes out for it.....but if u've beat part of the game you'd be better off airing it out with an air compressor, taking it apart to see if somethings messed up,or get a new "slim" PS2

03-05-2005, 09:21 PM
my ps2 started to do that and I sold it on ebay with all the games and controllers sayiong it had that error disk problem and got me 2 xbox's...glad I did and no problems 2 years later

My sons and his freinds both had disk read errors. I cleaned the laser and did all the adjustments you see online and that cured it for a little while but then they failed again so I ordered new lasers off of ebay for both PS2's for $30 each and installed them. Both PS2's have been working great for a couple of months now. The lasers just get weak and eventually cleaning them and doing the adjustments won't fix it any more. If you're out of warantee I would suggest you just replace the laser.

Alrite now it will read the disc but it does some crazy stuff. Some times it'll show Playstation 2 then it just goes back to the reading thing:confused: Some times it'll load it then it will freeaze?

I think I'm going to have to send it in:mad: Does anyone know how much it will cost? Even the number for that matter:grr:

If you have already opened up the case dont bother because sony will not touch it... If you haven't taken it apart yet though, they will look at it and as long as its not a problem caused by negligence(sp?) on your part they will fix it. I'll try to dig up the # for you, mine is fixing to be sent in for some repairs as well.:ermm:
