You've already seen some excellent coverage of Round 2. GNC_ Reporter did an awesome job with the Pros, and Harlen's live news kept you updated throughout the weekend. Now we'll show you a few of the other classes, plus additional photos from the pits and around the track.

During each of the first three days a line formed at registration as riders signed up for what was to become the 3rd largest GNC MX race ever

As you've heard, the weather was cold and dreary. The low 50s may not sound cold, but a wet cold in Texas can get down in your bones.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:24 PM
Yet, people were still having a great time!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:26 PM
Riders lined up Friday afternoon for tech inspection.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:30 PM
"Hurry up and wait" seemed to be the ongoing theme for this weekend.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:31 PM
The quads were inspected and marked, ready for racing on Saturday.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:33 PM
Most riders smiled as they passed through, relieved.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:35 PM
J and J's main photographer, Judy, stayed busy. If you were at Whitney, you probably saw her _ even talked to her. She said she met LOTS of really nice people.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:39 PM
Latecomers passed through tech inspection Saturday morning, while others waited.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:40 PM
A mandatory riders' meeting is held.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:42 PM
More waiting...

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:44 PM
Finally it's time to rock-n-roll.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:46 PM
J and J Racing's Justin Lawson (18X) is looking good as he completes his first lap in practice on Saturday.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:48 PM
Until he takes a double roll with his bike, putting him out of his first GNC race before it even began.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:52 PM
He knew he should have rolled that first lap! Justin finished the weekend serving as a mechanic in the start, helping everyone out and cheering them on.

You'll get 'em next time, Justin!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:55 PM
Moto 1 began with Cody Land (25) taking the holeshot. Cody later lost his air filter, then bent his swingarm, which caused his chain to come off and put him behind in the race.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:56 PM
Dallas Tapscott (48) picks up speed.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 04:59 PM
Dallas holds the GNC top spot in 90cc Production Jr. He finished first at Glen Helen, then took forth overall at Whitney.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 05:02 PM
Tyler Webster (104) is in the throttle!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 05:05 PM
Halley Sellers finished fourth in the PeeWee class for the South Texas Quad Racing Association points series last season. She had a blast at Whitney!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 05:06 PM
The young riders lined up for Moto 2 on Sunday. Then they waited...

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 05:09 PM
Finally, they're off! Colby Brake (862) looks determined.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 05:12 PM
Cody Gibson (66) finished second in the race on Saturday, then took first overall for this Round 2 event, putting him in the GNC Top Three position.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 05:17 PM
Racing continues... :D

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 05:23 PM
After getting hung in the gate, Tyler W. had to make his way from the back of the pack. He did a great job of it, too, finishing with a 5th place overall. Not bad!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 05:26 PM
Sara Trevino (61) does her best on this little stocker to keep up with the big guys.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 05:28 PM
Austin Stevens (13) must have tossed his goggles. Many riders were forced to throughout the weekend after they were coated with mud.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 05:31 PM
Andryanna Salinas, Sara Trevino, and Tyler Webster are hanging out at the track. These kids sure had fun!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 06:16 PM
Although just young teens, the Youth Production is a very competitive class.

Anthony Jackson (39) and Ryan Anderson (414) get in some practice on Friday. The track is muddy, but nothing like it will become on Saturday!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 06:20 PM
Josh Juneau (56) takes a jump with Women's A #2 rider Angela Moore. The Womens classes practiced on Friday with the Youth Production class.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 06:22 PM
Ryan A. is jumping through the whoops.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 06:24 PM
Ryan Jones (82) held STQRA's top spot in the Youth Sport Quads last season, but his transmission kept him from completing this national race.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 06:27 PM
On Saturday, Josh J. and Corey Trevino (71) try to talk over the roar of motors as they wait for their moto to begin.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 06:32 PM
With 27 riders signing up, the Youth Production was split into two divisions, or gate starts.

Division 1 takes off! One bike stands straight up, and a few others wheelie. These kids are ready to go!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 06:37 PM
They slide through the mud...

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 06:41 PM
The splashing water sends steam rising as riders try to make their way through the holeshot.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 06:48 PM
You can just imagine what was going through the minds of those on the gate in Division 2 as they watched the mud fly. Regardless, when the gate dropped, they didn't hold back!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 06:51 PM
In a wide spread, they tear through the mud.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 06:54 PM
Then they pile together in the first turn, most of them unrecognizable.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 06:58 PM
How did Josh J. remain so clean as he slid towards the front of the pack? Josh ended up with 4th in this moto, after several revisions in scoring.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:04 PM
An unidentified rider throws his goggles. What a mess!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:07 PM
The mud gets thick, and riders do their best to make it around the track.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:11 PM
Eddie Edmondson (191) tries to keep going. Eddie finished first at Glen Helen, then took second at Whitney, putting him in the GNC first place position. Way to go, Eddie!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:14 PM
The mud is flying!!!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:17 PM
Chunks of it!!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:21 PM
Cody Bales succeeds in making it around the track _ an accomplishment in itself, considering the conditions! Cody finished this GNC Round 2 with 10th overall.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:24 PM
I think this is Matt Bremer (111) nosing into it.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:30 PM
Fortunately, the rain ended, and Sunday's race got off to a much better start. Garrett Helmic (3) and Eddie E. battle for first place. Garrett took 2nd place in both motos, giving him a first place win at Whitney. Eddie finished 6th on Saturday, then won 1st in this moto.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:32 PM
The race begins with a pretty tight pack.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:36 PM
Corey T. (71) ran Sunday's moto on a flat tire, and still walked away with 12th overall.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:39 PM
Yasmin Adams (43) finished the first moto in 7th and the second one in 6th, giving him the 7th overall position at Whitney.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:44 PM
Dirk Davis (49) took 2nd in his Division on Saturday, but was unable to complete the race Sunday.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:46 PM
Corey Walmer (37) placed third in this second moto, putting him in 6th overall for Round 2.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:49 PM
Colten Moore (21) and Jay Corey (55) are on the throttle.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:51 PM
Josh J. gets a little air in the front whoops.

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:56 PM
So does Matt Giles (125). With the track drying out, these kids can finally get in some jumping...

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 07:59 PM
And, as with most MX riders, they do love to fly!

pitmomts
03-02-2005, 08:01 PM
We'll be posting coverage from a few more classes tomorrow, so check back soon!

As usual, the J and J crew delivers with some fantastic photography. These folks provide FREE coverage of all of our races and most of our practices. You can see the tireless dedication of this family as they pit for 2 riders and offer their assisstance to anyone else that needs it. They epitomize everything good about racing and it is my pleasure to call them my friends...

Thanks again....

:macho As usual, the J and J crew has stepped forward and produced. I'm not sure everybody realizes the time and effort that these people put forth at every race. FOR FREE !!!!!!!!!Thanks from RSA Racing - Mike, Diane and 414 Ryan Anderson

Thanks to all of you for the wonderful words. It really means a lot to all of us, as does our quad racing family. That's one thing that really stands out about the quad racers, and I saw it with most at the nationals as well _ a family of families. No other sport like it!!!

Now, on to more coverage...

03-03-2005, 10:19 AM
The Women’s A (which really should be called Women’s Pro, considering how they ride) is an exciting class to watch. Heather Byrd (#1 this year) and Angela Moore (#2) battle it out, with both wanting that first place position. Heather took the championship from Angela in 2004. Then Angela won at Glen Helen in Round 1. At Lake Whitney, Heather dominated.

Heather gets in some practice on Friday.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:21 AM
As does Angela.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:24 AM
The rain sets in as the gate drops on Saturday.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:26 AM
Heather, Angela, and Shannon Friesen (43) jump out front.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:27 AM
When they come into the turn, the mud is flying!

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:32 AM
Michelle Reiser (113) makes the turn in fourth. Michelle took 3rd in the women's 2004 championship series.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:34 AM
Jamie Rentz (23) wipes her goggles as Alex Kirchner (236) tries to catch up.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:36 AM
Heather takes the lead!

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:38 AM
She is flying... awesome to watch!!!

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:45 AM
Shannon’s goggles are gone. The track is slick, and the women are soon covered with mud.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:49 AM
Michelle is trying to catch Shannon for that third spot. She doesn’t make it this time.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:50 AM
Shannon wins third in this first moto.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:52 AM
And Michelle gets fourth _ this time.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:55 AM
Heather looks like a pro on the track. This multi-championship winner started riding more than twenty years ago, and her experience, as well as her training through the “Joe Byrd Quad Riding School,” sure shows.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:57 AM
Angela is also a multi-champ in the Women’s, plus she took 4th overall in the 16-24 class for last year’s GNC series and currently holds the top points position in Open A.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 10:59 AM
Angela takes a jump. Not an easy task in this mud!

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 11:11 AM
Looking much better on Sunday, Moto 2 begins with Heather out front.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 11:13 AM
Michelle is behind her, with Angela trying to make a pass.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 11:15 AM
Heather is gone!

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 11:17 AM
Michelle would love to keep that 2nd position.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 11:18 AM
But Angela takes it.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 11:20 AM
Michelle ends up with third overall.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 11:24 AM
Angela goes for first place, but stays a few seconds behind.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 11:25 AM
Heather is #1 at Lake Whitney!

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 11:27 AM
And she flies into the Women’s top position.

MXRACER86
03-03-2005, 12:57 PM

oops...my bad. Don't know how that happened. I certainly know the difference, got it right at first, then... well, trying to do too many things at once, I guess. Thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks! Not sure about the pics, I'd have to go back and check. And with 2K images to go through, it will have to wait. I am backed up right now. If you want to send a message through the site at jandjracing.com to remind me, we will check as soon as time permits. :)

03-03-2005, 04:17 PM
Corey Walmer (37) placed third in this second moto, putting him in 6th overall for Round 2.

isnt this guy illegal to race? he has a modified shock mount in the front, i thought that was illegal in Youth Production??

nationalmx288
03-03-2005, 05:59 PM
yes you can have a modified shock mount as long as it is bolted on and not welded. The same with subframes.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 06:49 PM
STQRA’s Misti Hues takes time out from racing for a quick photo. Imagine going from this…

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 06:50 PM
to this! All in one weekend! That’s Texas for ya!!!

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 06:52 PM
The bikes had been polished for nationals, and looked pretty good in practice on Friday.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 06:54 PM
Crystal Badeaux’s (222) Honda with new plastic and powdercoat shined.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 06:55 PM
As did Kara Corn’s Cannondale.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 06:57 PM
Jami Luburgh (25) found a little mud on Friday. But nothing like they would see on Saturday!

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 06:59 PM
The Women’s B/C took off through the mud in Moto 1, with Crystal pulling away.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:00 PM
She came from the outside to make the turn…

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:02 PM
And took the holeshot. Unfortunately, she was soon out of the race.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:03 PM
The mostly unidentifiable riders were quickly layered with mud.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:10 PM
Jami finished first in this nasty moto, with Christa Watson (186) coming in second, Shade Warren (610) in third and Leslie Ragon (11) in fourth. Any one of them might be pictured here, but I sure can’t tell.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:12 PM
I do know this is Kara, but she doesn’t usually look like this.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:13 PM
As with the other classes, the Women’s B/C 2nd moto began much better.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:15 PM
Cindi Hart (88) led the first lap, with Jami in second and Misti in third.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:17 PM
Just before the end of the first lap, Misti makes a pass for second.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:19 PM
Leslie Ragon is in fourth, then third, but finishes with first overall for Round 2, putting her in first place in the GNC points for the Women’s B/C.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:21 PM
Kara is in 5th and/or 6th before her pipe gets squashed and the bike dies, putting her in the back of the pack.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:23 PM
Misit goes for a pass on Cindi.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:25 PM
But she doesn’t make it.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:27 PM
She’s still in second, with Jami in third.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:29 PM
Misti won the Women’s B/C at Glen Helen, and although she had some trouble in the first moto at Lake Whitney, she’s determined to get that first place win again.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:31 PM
She finally makes the pass, putting Cindi in 2nd.

pitmomts
03-03-2005, 07:33 PM
Misti takes the checkered flag!

I hope we got these right. So many races, so many photos!!! I will check on the 50s and 90 mods, and will be adding more photos, either here or on the J and J site, but it will take a few more days at least, since we have our season opener (STQRA) this weekend, if it's not rained out. We are all so tired of the rain and mud!! :grr:

Good luck to Harlen this weekend, and lots of luck to all of the STQRA folks! :)
