my review on 14/39 gearing

i just regeared my bike to 14/39
i thought i would share what i think about it
its worth the money. it pulls very hard for 1st through 4th great for trails, but very hard to keep the front end down. i would sugest this gearing for trails and mx. it fells like a 300ex on crack. the topend is a little bit above the 300 but gets there but seconds.

What the meant was, he put a 14 tooth sprocket on the front and a 39 tooth sprocket on the back.

To do that you simply unbolt the old sprockets and bolt the new ones on. You'll have to remove the left wheel, however.

Did it feel like you lost quite a bit of top end or not much?

i did not lose a lot but it dose lose a bit
but what you lose in topend you gain it bottom
i think its worth the money if you gonna race mx

If you ride tight trails the 14t front is worth losing the little bit of topend in my opinion.Like sam the brave said,1st through 4th pulls alot harder than stock with a 14t front.

The front end likes to go towards the sky with the 14t front too!

you will loose a lot of top end. it all depends on your riding style. for tight tracks or trails lowering the gearing is fine. on our stock 400ex's when we drag race, we were noticable slower with 14/38 than the stock 15/38 gearing. our stock cams just don't rev high enough with lower gearing when drag racing. i would only lower the gearing if you put taller tires on or if you are concerned with low end power and top end power isn't a concern.

Actually for MX the stock gearing is perfect. Everyone thinks you want as much low end as you can get and since you dont get past 4th gear you want lowest gearing as possible. ON the contrar you dont want to be shifting a lot which greatly slows you down. With stock gearing i can lug gears a little high and shave time off instead of losing time by having to shift out of a corner or not be able to clear the double out of the corner cause i couldnt hold 2nd gear

I agree with yamablaster24. I felt like I was changing gears to much too. I ride mostly woods and I did not like it. But everyone has an opinion.

i think the stock gearing is perfect for trails and just about any other type of riding done.

I haven't tried this gearing, with 18" tires and stock gearing I think is good enough for mx racing. the smaller tires in the back really changed the gearing.
