Nerf Bars

Hey all...im kinda new to the sport. My question is what is the purpose of nerf bars?

originally it was for racers, who raced in very close quarters with another guy (mainly in turns) it kept the other guys tires outta your pegs... now days it seems everyone has them "just to look cool" or swear up and down that you gotta have em just to have a 4 wheeler..

Also, they protect your feet and ankles from going into the tires when you jump if you were to miss the pegs.

peopel dont have them to look cool....they acually save your ankles..wether your a hardcore racer or light trail rider
