i've ridden both, if you are set on serious mx, skip em and get a 450r or wait for the z450. If you plan on just general playing around, the z400 is a quick bike, I happened to notice that they feel slightly taller and more tippy than a 400ex, but they are slightly faster. Plus, they now have reservoir shocks. But if youre brand loyal like me, go for a 400ex, parts are generally everywhere for them and trust me, you cant kill 'em. They handle pretty good also.

I was in the same position as you, but I'm a honda guy so i chose the EX
:o

I would get the z400. with that, you have some edge on the competition. just add a pipe and shocks, and u got preaty competable quad. no offence to the ex riders... but its gettin preaty obsolete for racin. its a good reliable trail quad. but my friend has the engine maxed out on performance... and he is just barely keepin up with the 450's. you can usually find a z400 for the same price as a ex. im a honda man... but go for the z. if u want a pic of a good z400... take a look at digger dougs black one he had a loretta lynns..... makes me smile every time i look at her.

It would be stupid to get the ex when the z is much better in all situations

since hes posting this on an atv forum, he probably doesnt want a bike...

and I've ridden both. if you're getting an 05 model, i'd pick the Z400. Any other year i would take the EX.

For sure the Z and I own a ex. The Z has reverse, 2 cams, and liquid cooled. I would first of all throw away that hunk of crraapp swinger on it though.

CANNONDALE....j/k(kinda)

but seriously, between these two i'd go for the Z, water cooled, and slightly faster then the EX:macho

no doubt the z and like someone else said dirt wheels did a shootout and the z smoked the ex in every aspect.

The only thing a Z has thats better than the EX is water cooling.d reverse dont mean chit to me expecially if you are going to MX:cool: of coarse this is just my opinion:chinese: If you are going to mod the quad keep in mind that bolt on mods will wake the Z up alot more than the EX. With that said you still cant go wrong with a Honda.

If your buying new go with the Z
If your buying used go with the EX
If you got skills you can be competitive with either quad.
If you ride like me you better stay away from quads and ride a tricycle:blah:

well the bikes that i am looking at are a friends 440ex that the motor was built by lrd w/ an eichner carb, but stock chassis and suspension. for 2000 or any year z400 im sure most of them have at least a pipe.so thats what im comparing and trying to decide on. i will slowly building each of them witch ever i get.mostly on the suspension side not somuch the motor. im looking mostly for handling.

if you going with an 05 model then the Z is definetely the better choice for suspension.
