Went to get oil filters and oil for my new R at the dealership today and was standing there b s ing with the parts guys ,and the service manager comes over and says to use 80W in the trans what the hell :confused: is he right? or was he sniffing gas in the shop? i was going to use some HP4 or GN4 10w40

He is correct. Honda make the tranny and engine oils seperate

yah..he is correct. I use the 80w in mine and mobile 1 gold cap in engine side

Thanks, owners manual doesnt mention 80w, or at least I didnt see it.Just wanted to use the right stuff.

The shop manual lists 10-40W with out friction modifiers. I have been using Amsoil 10-40W in my R and it works great. I don't know why people are using 80W.

I use 80w Honda gear oil (for old 250R) in the red bottle and it works great. Gear oil has special additives for sheer wear between gears that regular oil will not have. I think it's better for gears to run gear oil in tranny.:)
