You can bolt up the arms fine..you will need the 400 tie rods..the shocks will not work without a relocator bracket..

There is too much bumpsteer with that setup. Get 300ex +2 a-arms, relocator bracket for 400ex shocks, and custom shocks from Elka, Axis, etc..

The bumpsteer isnt as bad as everyone on here makes it sound..It isnt bad at all..it is worse than it would be with +2 300 arms, but it isnt bad and definately isnt something that a stabilizer cannot fix..

The bumsteer that is created by using the 400ex front end will wear you out much faster than a proper front end would. If you want it to handle great then go with what nacs400ex said. I have had both setups and there is no replacement for doing it right. The 400ex front end is no better than wheel spacers.

Yes the bump steer is bad and will handle worse than your stock setup. We tried this and it just does not work no matter what parts you bring over from the 400!

I'm thinking we should all put together a "Why the 300ex/400ex front end conversion doesn't work" thread and make it a sticky in the sport quad under 350 section. It would save a few folks a bunch of explaining.

I still say if you compare dollars invested and utility gained, it is not a bad mod for the beggining racer. It is hard to beat 2" of width and better shocks for around 100 bucks. I would bet many doing this mod don't even notice the bump steer on the 250x/300ex after they gain the stability of width and better suspension.

my 2 cents

Well first off you dont want to get the +2 300ex arms, and 400ex shocks and bracket b/c then your shocks look like they are strait up and down, kinda wierd lookin imo, but i think that for most of the people that do this conversion arent doing hardcore racing(i wouldnt with a relocator bracket off ebay either) and wouldnt know bumpsteer if it hit them, just put on the arms and shocks, and if it feels like worse handling, then get a steering stabalizer, that is what im gonna do when i get all my stuff, some peole cant afford $300 arms and works shocks, so this is a cheap mod that could have good results.

the a-arms are kinda like a ll the other "backyard/cheap" mods out there...they work fine but not the best...'01 Raptor rear shock,400ex plastics,400ex a-arms....and all the other countless mods u can get they work good enough for most and save money.

What a arms and shocks are you going with roostin_dale? Be sure and post up the improvements or differences you feel after the switch. One of these days, I might fork over the cash for a set of 250x a arms just to see what kind of difference there is between my current set up and aftermarket 250x a arms.

ghak99..I orderd Burgard +3+1 arms and Elkas....I will post a ride report after the first race with them....I have a burgard +2 swingarm and Elka rear, so I thought the Elka fronts and Burgard +1 forwards will even everythig out.

bad01300ex...$215 shipped...

Another one converted. Seriously you'll feel a difference. I noticed my arms don't hurt after riding like they did with the old front end. Are you using a shockmount bracket or stock length shocks?

I am using standard length shocks. Just due to the fact that I race MX every weekend whether its Nationals or locals and i just dont trust the shockmount for motocross...

That's probably a good idea. MX might be more punishment than the bracket can handle. Don't forget to give us your ride report after you get the new front end. Good luck

i think this is one of the best cheap mods you can do to a 300ex

back when i had mne,i spent $60 on shocks and $50 on a-arms
and tie-rods and made the new shock mounts myself
and if i noticed anything different in the steering it was better

it made it corner a lot better and i raced every weekend and practiced once or twice during the week for around 5-6 months
and never had any problems
and the track i was racing at had 4 60-75 feet jumps and i was hitting all of them and the landing felt good almost everytime unless i cased the jump very bad
i dont see how spending $500 on +2's and $350+ on stock length
shocks could be any better
